Caritas- Saturday before 8:15 pm

It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

[Hold for so much OCD OCD up! Date away!

And Jaye sat down, frowning a little at his very Marc-like face.

"Mmm hm."

"Not Marc," Steven quickly assured her. Which was surely not at all a strange thing to say to someone unasked. Also ignore how Steven in no way subtly put his cocktail napkin over his glass of wine when he realized there was a reflection in it. "Steven. With a V. But. Erm. He and I are... close?"

At least that had the benefit of being true.

"Sure. And you're definitely not Marc trying to put on a cover because he ghosted my nights, right?"

Honestly she'd have let it go until she heard the accent, which sounded to her like an accent she would put on if she was trying to pretend she didn't ghost someone's bar nights.

Oh! Good! Both of them understanding that Marc had a habit of ghosting people saved a lot of time. Steven was relieved, frankly.

"No, no," Steven said. And he was just going to scoot his covered wine glass a little further away just to be on the safe side. Napkins did have a way of falling off at the slightest movement of air, after all. "But I can explain that bit! See he does do that. Leave and not say a word about it. But apparently you were off island as well? A holiday maybe?"

Steven was a little fuzzy on these details. He could rummage through Marc's memories to find them but, well, that risked making Marc aware of the conversation.

"Oh, I was off getting an exorcism," she said, like that was a thing people did.

"Oh. Did it hurt?" Steven asked, momentarily distracted by his curiosity. He'd been briefly tempted to try one on himself, after all. Then he remembered they were on a time limit. "Er - not my business. Sorry. What I mean to say is he thought you were doing what he does. Not keeping ties with anyone. So when you came back he figured leave you be. You mentioning him on radio surprised him."

Enough that even Steven had felt it.

"Nah, it didn't hurt, the cops showed up before the stabbing started," Jaye said easily. "But of course I mentioned him. That was the first I knew he was still around."

Which might've been for the best. She'd have had an inappropriate field day with things like hanging out with teenagers.

"Always good to nip things in the bud before bloodshed," Steven agreed. His own experiences in these matters weren't exorcism related but he could appreciate a well timed interruption when your life was on the line.

Again aware of how little time they had, Steven said, "He does like you. Er - not in a creepy way. He enjoys your company. He doesn't enjoy most people's. Not even mine some days. He's a poor way of showing it but if you would like to meet him somewhere I could make sure he'll be there."

Possibly by going there himself and then shoving Marc into the body without warning. But in Steven's defense that had worked out really well the last time he'd tried it.

That offer definitely did nothing to dissuade Jaye from thinking Marc was just doing a weird bit right now.

"I tend to be at the bars," she said, as the buzzer went off.

Jaye certainly wouldn't be the first woman to think that.

"Right. He's usually at Devil's Nest on Mondays," Steven said, if that was of interest to her. He got up, belatedly remembering to grab his wine glass as well. "And he's a good heart. Honest. Just... buried deep under the part where he's an enormous twat as well. Anyway, good meeting you!"
