It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

"Hello Graham! The night is going well so far, yes. Are you enjoying yourself?"

As far as Belle could tell Graham was always enjoying himself. That probably meant he was going to be a delightful brief date.

It was true, Graham really did always enjoy himself, which was a good thing, because that meant he was definitely enjoying it while he still could.

"I really am," he confirmed, with a tilt of his head and a broad grin that just went to prove his sincerity in that answer. "Even if my first date was with a guy I already spend a lot of time with, since he's my roommate, but he's great, and he didn't even fall asleep, so I'm taking that as a very good sign. Have you ever done something like this before? It's definitely my first time!"

Which made it very exciting. Kind of a thrill, really! Who would he be matched up with? How would the dates go? Was there a special prize at the end for making it through without anyone throwing their drinks at you? He couldn't wait to find out!

Belle would definitely not be throwing any drinks on Graham. That would be like kicking a puppy (only wetter).

"I'm glad you're having a good time," she said, smiling at him. "I've done this before and it's always interesting, at least."

Even if the last time she'd had to talk to Five twice. The horror.

How did she even manage to survive such an ordeal??

"I like interesting," Graham allowed, in a manner that suggested that this clearly spoke very highly of the rest of the evening. "So, I guess, we should try to use this time to get to know each other a little better, then, huh? So, what do you like to do? How's the library? I'm always getting to report on your day at the library, and it always sounds like there's rarely a dull moment there!"

It had been a very near thing!

"The library is always interesting," Belle said. She was always happy to discuss the library. "I never know what might be waiting for me when I go in and I'm not sure it's ever been the same thing twice! I could have lived without any of the times with water, even if they were all different. I always worry about the books with things like that! How are you liking your classes this time?"

"Oh, yeah, that's right!" Graham remembered with a laugh. "The notes said it was raining in there this week, ubut..." He flashed her grin, "it also said that you were very deft and capable in making sure that all the books were kept well and safe, truly the mark of an excellent librarian, indeed!"

Well, he might be adding a little hyperbole there, but hyperbole when complimenting someone was always a good move!

"Oh, and classes are great this time around, too! The classes here are all so interesting and exciting. I had some pretty good ones at Knight School, too, but these have a little bit more of a...loosey-goosey kind of feel. A lot less uptight! How are yours? Any particularly good ones? I think my favorite one this semester is Fight Stuff!, even though I'm not much of a fighter, but I really hope to learn to be better, especially if I'm going to be a knight, and plus, its just me and two of my best friends in it, Kurt and Guillermo? Do you know Kurt and Guillermo, too? They're really great!"

Definitely trying to squeeze a lot into those three minutes, there, weren't you, Graham?"

"I have two classes on heroism, one on adventuring, one on movies, and one on libraries," Belle shared, beaming at Graham. "They've all been very interesting so far. I'm not sure I could choose a favorite."

"Ohhhhhhh," Graham gushed. "I wanted to take the one on adventuring! But I work on Fridays! And I knew Steph probably wouldn't mind if I missed a little bit for a class, especially one about adventuring, but that was all kind of a hassle in the summer. I like being able to spend more time in the store! Is the adventuring class everything you hoped it could ever be and moooore??"

"They've all been quite good," Belle said. "Though adventuring could be a bit more exciting."

You might think that having been here over a year and a half now Belle would know better than to wish for excitement on this island.

"I haven't been to the store where you work yet. Should I come visit sometime?"

"Oh, you really should!" Graham answered, as enthusiastically as one might expect. "It's great! There's all sorts of different games of all types, and just this week, I was really learning more about comic books! That's also where we do our D&D games every Friday, that's been ama--"

Was it just the end of the time in the round? Was the bar trying to tell Graham to maybe rein it in a little? Was it censoring him?

The first one. It was the first one.

"Oh! Looks like we've run out of time."

"You can tell me about it another time," Belle said. "Enjoy the rest of your night!"

"Thanks, Belle!" said Graham, as he got up out of his chair and flashed her one last grin. "I will! You, too! Er, about enjoying the rest of the night, I mean. Although I will enjoy the rest of the night, and I'll tell you about it another time! Okay!" The natural pull of the next round finally had him drifting away. "See ya!"
