It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

“This is a first for me,” Cutter admitted, “I don’t really do these kind of events,” he paused, stared down at his scotch, “I went to a bar at home and I ended up getting recruited to help consult the home office,”

He paused, “oh, you don’t live here?” he asked, “where’s home usually for you?” he asked curiously.

"I live on a planet called Bastion," she said, though she wouldn't really call it home. "Not sure if you're used to different planets."

“Not really,” Cutter admitted, “I’ve met a couple of people who come from different galaxies since coming here but back home that’s not really common, we’ve only recently discovered that there were portals that opened up to the Earth’s past,” he explained, “it was pretty ordinary until then,”

"Like Portalocity?" Her nemesis.

Cutter wasn’t entirely sure what Portalocity was but he could hazard a guess based on the name, “they’re like temporal anomalies,” he explained, “we don’t know how or when they appear but our recent dealings have involved dinosaurs escaping into modern day England,” he paused, “at least England in 2008,” he clarified because he realised now that he wasn’t technically completely from modern day himself.

“My ex wife ended up travelling between them for eight years, living in the past,” he paused, “at the time I thought she was dead,” he added.

"Oh," Jaina said. "That's... a lot."

“It was,” Cutter admitted, “it’s part of the reason I took up the teaching job here, the situation back home was … well ...complicated,” and everyone else thought he was going crazy but he decided to not mention that part.

"Well, hopefully it works out better for you going forward," Jaina said as the bell rang.
