Valentine's Dance; Town Hall; Friday Evening [8 pm - 10 pm]

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

"I'm sorry, did you say stocks?" Wow, that took no imagination at all to figure out those possibilities. Bad brain, bad!

"Well, yes. But it's better than a night in the dungeon!"

They were so on the wrong page.

Tiny bit! "Huh. Maybe I'm biased. I've had bad experiences in dungeons. They're cold, and uncomfy, and then there are giant snakes and it all goes bad."

Mostly said because if he also had experiences with giant snakes, she was going to have to run away. ...Or pull up a chair and ask more questions. Who knew.

Well... Merlin couldn't counter that because they rather were. But the last, on the other hand, "Giant snakes?"

"My life isn't boring," Buffy replied. Hey, if she had to be public, might as well have fun with it. "What, you don't have giant snakes?"

"Just rats." And a dragon. "How not boring would you be talking about?"

"Well... I once turned into a rat. That kind of not boring," she said. Start with the little things.

"...here or back home?" It was an important distinction for someone who had spent part of the weekend as a squirrel.

"Back home. This place is really kind of an extension of the weird."

It certainly sounded like it.

"I was a squirrel for a bit this past weekend," Merlin replied, weakly.

"Oh, really? Did you do radio?" she asked, totally interested in the answer and not finding it at all weird.

"No, no. I just turned myself and Arthur into them to... teach a lesson on leadership." Merlin shook his head. "It didn't even make sense to the person I thought I was."

Buffy tried really hard not to look or sound too amused. "Who'd you think you were?" Her guess was 'magical park ranger.'

"Me. Only old and barmy," He said with a sigh.

Buffy considered this. "When I'm old and whatever barmy means, I'd totally want to hang out, turning people into squirrels all day. Good way to pass those golden years." She was half-kidding. Half.

"Insane," Merlin replied politely. "It might have been worse if Arthur hadn't been some Roman man at the time."

Oh, hey, she'd already been that. ~~Damn you canon.~~ "How would it be worse?" she wondered.

"Magic is--" He looked a bit shifty for a moment, trying to think of a way that wouldn't offend the odd sensibilities of people in this time. "--frowned upon in Camelot."

"Ohhh, so turning people into squirrels would be a no-no. Gotcha," Buffy nodded. "But I mean, everything was weird for the weekend. It's not your fault."

"But he thought he was me! Or I was him. I'm not exactly certain how that worked, actually."

"Yeah, I'm completely confused," she confessed. "Some people were themselves, some were other versions of themselves, some weren't themselves at all and it kind of makes my head hurt." And her knee, and her hand, and parts of her jaw, but those all got better.

Merlin just nodded. "Were you someone else?"

Meh. Might as well cop to it. "Nope. Just plan old Buffy. Dealing with lots and lots of crazy people."

"At least you didn't wake up embarrassed about everything," Merlin replied. "I would have preferred to stay myself."

No, she just woke up at like two pm. "At least you got your Fandom weird story in early?" she tried.
