Valentine's Dance; Town Hall; Friday Evening [8 pm - 10 pm]

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

[Wait for the OCD or so help me...I'll hurt you is here! Up early because Natalie said so and to get the most out of play. Second part to go up later on tonight (tomorrow?) to save browsers and to spike punch]

"It's just punch, that's all that's wrong with it," Romeo said, shaking his head. "I suppose it's fine. Sweet."

"Was it supposed to be something else?" he asked with a tilt of his head.

"I suppose not, so early in the evening," Romeo said, setting his cup aside with a final look of distaste. "It's of no import. Does the dance find you well, Liir?"

Re: Snacks/Punch

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It was probably best, if only for Liir, that it hadn't been spiked.

"It finds me well. And yourself? Here with Dojima?"
withoutverona: (all stubbly and grrrr)

Romeo nodded. "She's about somewhere, I suppose. I like it, though I miss the masks from last year. Are you here with anyone?"

He knew Liir and Amber had dated at one point, but he hadn't talked to either of them in a while and he didn't want to make assumptions.

"Amber. We're sort of, well, together. Rather a lot, really."

Enough that Ino made fun of it, which was neither here nor there.

"She's dancing, though, and I'm not exactly, er, good at this kind of dancing so I've let her to it."
withoutverona: (exposition time!)

"So you aren't together quite all the time, then," Romeo commented dryly. "It's good you're happy, though. She's a sweet girl."

"She is a light to my life and a warmth to whatever I have that passes for a soul," he said absently, watching her for a moment on the dance floor.

"And you? And Dojima? Well, I should hope? I'm sorry I've stopped coming around with lunch as I used to, but I don't actually, erm, know when you work anymore."

And he didn't want to be annoying.

Romeo straightened as if he had been challenged; perhaps, in his head, he had. "She is," he said precisely, "the very motion of my heart, the motion of air that makes one wish to keep breathing. I know of none so fair."

"So," he added, "we are well indeed."

He blinked at the precision. He'd mostly just been wondering how they both were. He certainly hadn't been challenging Romeo's devotion. Wouldn't dream of it.

"I'm... glad to hear it," yes, he still looks very confused.

"What did I say wrong, exactly?" he finally asked.

"Nothing at all," Romeo said, relaxing his shoulders though with some faint disappointment Liir had misunderstood him so. "I merely did not wish to be outdone if we were praising our ladies."

Liir had a few responses to that, but he kept the first three or four very firmly to himself because they involved laughing. Partially because the very idea was such a strange one and partially because Romeo actually though he could out do Romeo in anything?

"No fear there," he said, "as poetry comes as naturally to me as flying to a fish."

Of course, this was neither entirely accurate, nor was Liir aware of flying fish.

"We could continue, though, if you liked. I just didn't enjoy the thought that you thought I was being insulting or trying to upset you."

Cooking! He could outdo Romeo in cooking. And in modesty. And in housekeeping. And in magic. And, most likely, in a few thousand other things.

Poetry, though, that was Romeo's.

"No, no, it's all right," Romeo said, laughing himself. "A bit of a misunderstanding, there. I'm told they happen, and I'd not thought that you were being insulting."

He might have thought that, if Liir was being entirely serious, he was rather overpraising Amber, but that was the magic of love.

Very firmly Romeo's.

"I'm very skilled at that, of course. Misunderstandings. All of that aside, I am glad you're both well and fine. I don't check up on people as much as I used to, something I really need to fix. I've been flittering around the dance like a sparrow just from seeing faces and recalling how remiss I've been."
withoutverona: (not ashamed)

"I'm always pleased to see you, of course," Romeo said. "We do manage well enough, though, with or without regular checking in on."

"I have no doubt about that," he said with a somewhat-blushing smile, " I'm of little import to most things. But I do enjoy seeing you. I'm just not used to so many people, really."
withoutverona: (I see my destiny)

"No, I think this is the largest group I've seen since the new students arrived," Romeo agreed. "it's nice, though, knowing we all clean up so well."

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"I missed that, unfortunately," he had to admit.

"I've started to like going. Not so many surprises."

"To dances, or to the welcome picnics?" Romeo asked, a little confused.

Re: Snacks/Punch

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2009-02-13 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"The welcome picnics," he explained with a shrug.

"You know I'm not exactly the most personable sort, after all. But it's good to meet people right from the go. If I hadn't been a tray of brownies this time around, I would have been there."

Yes, he said exactly what you heard.
