Valentine's Dance; Town Hall; Friday Evening [8 pm - 10 pm]

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

He chose not to pursue the subject of her sisters and their fate right now. There would hopefully be better opportunities. "So you made an effort to make them embarrassing," Leto said. "I have to say I approve. I have a sister myself, so I haven't suffered from that delusion about girls being plague-ridden." Slowly he led them into the room. "So, where do we start?"

"Perhaps they had no sisters," Alice said, grateful for the change in topic. "Or perhaps their sisters were particularly odious and gave them the notions of plague."

She looked around the room. "I believe we mingle, and compliment everyone on their exquisite outfits. My, this island is full of handsome individuals. Or we could fetch ourselves some punch, or even dance, though it seems one must first mingle and chat and eat first. One would think dancing would have higher priority, at a dance, but everyone will be dancing soon enough, I expect."

"I believe Ghanima would have laughed and then hurt me badly should I have accused her of having the plague," he said solemnly. "And sometimes one saves the best until last." There was a pause. "This music is very odd. I can't see how we could dance to it."

"Dancing in this era seems to be flailing one's body around entirely at random," she observed. "Though the dance I requested would be a slower tempo song. Couples seem to place their hands on one another's hips and shoulders and sway, for those."

How strange, to remember that his twin sister had been her teacher, a few times over.

"Random failing?" It seemed a little... undignified, for lack of a better word. "But the slow dance sounds better." He grinned, trying to slip an arm around her waist.

"Wait until it starts," she said with a playful grin. "Observing dancers is quite the pastime. I've yet to find any pattern to it, but you might prove more perceptive than I."

She leaned in close when his arm looped around her waist. "If you insist on being forward, I'm afraid I shall have no choice but to retaliate."

This was more promise than threat. Or perhaps another challenge.

"It's a habit I've been told to break, but I see no reason to if you don't object," Leto replied. "And retaliation might even be the goal." And as the goal seemed to have been achieved, he didn't move away.

"I was always told to be a proper young lady," Alice said, quite primly. "Which is, I imagine, why I detest it so."

That wasn't the reason she was inching upwards and trying to steal a kiss. Though he could think that, if he liked.

"A proper young lady who does not kiss her date to the dance?" he joked, before pressing his lips against hers.

"I am Victorian," she laughed, letting the kiss linger for a moment before pulling away again. "If you aren't familiar, we've nearly set the record for prudish cultures. I should clutch my pearls and require smelling salts, I believe, but a kiss seemed more enjoyable."

"You must have revolted," he said. "You don't come across as prudish. And in the absence of pearls and smelling salts you are welcome to clutch me."

Alice nodded with a laugh. "I did, long before I came here. It seemed no fun at all. Are you suggesting that you're sufficient cure to rouse someone from fainting?"

"I am suggesting I would at least try," he said cheerfully. "And I think you would frighten even a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother." That was a compliment, and the Mohiam in his mind reluctantly agreed.

"Indeed?" Alice asked, her curiosity piqued. "What is a Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother, and how frequently should one be frightened?"

He laughed. "They are the leaders of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. And how often depends on who you ask. I'd say it's not done nearly often enough, and not everyone has the ability."

Mohiam inside his mind expressed some serious displeasure as this disrespect.

"But you do," Alice said, eying him and considering it. "And I should imagine your sister, as well."

And they had perhaps delighted in doing so. Alice quite approved.

"Our very existence frightens them," he confessed. "Abomination. I will have to explain that some other time." Of all the people he had met in Fandom, he guessed Alice would be the one least likely to be scared herself. And he needed someone like that.

She nodded carefully. "I believe I have a few things to confess, myself," she admitted. She had mentioned the asylum as easily as one might discuss one's home town or favorite color, when first she arrived; reactions had put a rather quick stop to that. Though Leto did not seem as though he would pull away.

"Let's save confessions for another day," Leto suggested, offering her another kiss.

"Agreed," she said lightly, savoring the kiss. "They hardly go with dances and complimenting one another's outfits. They might match this decor, but one suspects confessions in that instance would be coerced."

"So, better saved for another time." He laughed softly against her forehead.

"Until then," she said gently.

There would be time enough for all of that later.
