Valentine's Dance; Town Hall; Friday Evening [8 pm - 10 pm]

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

"Not at all," Firekeeper shook her head. "There, they is having horns, and pipes, and sometimes fiddle. Sometimes the music have words, too, but those is not really for dancing to, like these."

"That sounds like folk music," Francine said. "Or country. We have dance music like that too, but it's older."

"I want to hear!" Firekeeper said. "I try to make music with a flute, once. Is much harder than it look!"

Which was Francine's cue to look really guilty. "Yeah, no kidding. I um. Play the clarinet. Except 'play' probably isn't the right word."

"Why not?"

"'Cause I haven't been playing it since I got here."

"Why is you not playing?" Well, at least 'why' questions were a change from 'what'.

"Because I suck," Francine admitted, oh so truthfully.

"You not supposed to suck," Firekeeper pointed out. "You supposed to blow into instrument. It work much better that way."

Francine stared at her for a second before bursting into laughter. "Oh, I do that too. I both suck and blow."

"...At the same time?" That sounded painful.

"Let's just say most people can't tell the difference when they hear it," Francine answered with a snort. "I'm really bad at it; I just can't convince my mom of that."

"I think it would be easy to tell when one is bad at such," Firekeeper said with a shrug. Tact? Not her strong suit, really.

"Oh, I can tell. And my music teacher could tell, and everyone in the back row of the band could tell. Just not my mom."

"She not hear well?" It was a logical question.

Francine laughed. "Only when she chooses not to."
