Valentine's Dance; Town Hall; Friday Evening [8 pm - 10 pm]

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

"It just goes," Ben said. "Released to the Force, no longer my problem."

His attention was snagged by the last word. "What kind of strategies?"

"Hide. Pretend to be the loyal servants of benevolent gods. Pretend to be the benevolent gods. Or the more vengeful kind, if that's to your taste. Use myths to your advantage."

Ben wrinkled up his nose. "We don't believe in gods like that," he said.

"It wasn't a question of belief," Leto said. "But each strategy has to be integrated into existing culture, using the myths and belief systems available. I'm sure there are other concepts which would fit better."

Ben nodded, clearly paying close attention. "What we're doing now isn't really working, but we're not supposed to rule the galaxy, either."

"But what is your purpose?" Leto asked.

"We serve justice," Ben said simply.

"Whose justice?" Leto wondered.

"Justice doesn't belong to anyone," Ben said. "It just is. There's a right and wrong to everything if you look carefully enough. Our job is to find it."

"I'm afraid I have to disagree," Leto said, smiling. "But explain, how do you look for it?"

"I can sense emotions," Ben explained, "and can tell when people are lying." He shrugged. "I'm still learning. Most of the missions I've been sent on were as a student, learning from my teacher. I might have learned the wrong lessons. My teacher...wasn't very good."

"Then I'm sorry for you," Leto said. "And I hope you can find a better one." So the boy was something like a Truthsayer?

"I'm now apprenticed to my father," Ben said with a smile, "who's the best. And Granddad is teaching me while I'm here."

"I enjoy your grandfather's classes," Leto said, smiling too.

"He definitely has a way of making a point," Ben admitted. "For me, it involves lightsaber practice and being told what I'm doing wrong with my life."

"And what are you doing wrong?" Leto was unable to resist asking.

"That's for me to know," Ben said with a tight little smile.

Laughing, Leto shook his head. "Forgive me, I should not have asked."

Ben's smile grew more genuine again. "I won't hold it against you."

"Thank you. Then I will see you in the salle next week, I assume?" He returned the smile.

"Definitely!" Ben said.
