Winter Carnival | All Day | The Park | January 31 [Post #1]

It was a new day and there was no better way to start a new day than with the continuation of the carnival. There was still snow coating the ground but the atmosphere was as lively as ever. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

"I suppose not," Mina said. "The vehicles do seem rather... cozy."

She was gathering that these were normally meant for couples much younger. She was debating going to fetch a disinfectant spray and hosing down the seats before entering.

They did seem... Cozy, at that. Somewhat.

"It was either this, or the bunjee jumping," Nathan replied, raising an eyebrow at the vehicle. "It's probably not too late to change our minds, though."

There was something completely unappealing about throwing himself from a very high place, though. This seemed... Saner. By a great deal.

"I believe bungee jumping is not designed for a woman in a dress," Mina pointed out. "Help me in."

She extended a hand out, hoping he would take it to stabilize her as she got in.

Well, what sort of gentleman would he be if he couldn't even manage that?

... Don't answer that.

"And neither of us are dressed for fudge wrestling," he quipped, taking her hand to help her into the little... buggy thing. "This seems like the lesser of several evils, after a look around this place."

"Indeed," Mina said. "Besides, I would rather not end up with fudge in my hair. I would probably have to cut it short, and I do not think that would be a good look for me."

"Or me, for that matter," Nathan chuckled, waiting politely until she was seated in the vehicle before climbing into it as well.

Really, long hair was a good look for him. It went well with the beard. This was absolutely for the best.

"Though I can't imagine they'd use fudge that doesn't wash out," he ventured, after a moment's consideration.

~~And we all know, Tom Cruise would be nothing without a beard around...~~

"It's fudge," Mina said. "Sticky and messy. I'm not sure it comes in an 'easily washed' variety."

"Wishful thinking, then." Nathan shot her a smile and shrugged his shoulders. "There's probably worse that they could have chosen for that, though. Hot tar jousting, and then feather wrestling both come to mind."

"Have you ever felt hot tar, sir?" Mina said. She wasn't speaking from experience, but from her own knowledge of how hot tar would have to be. "I believe that would be considered torture."

"Which automatically makes it a worse choice than fudge," Nathan replied.

Always looking on the bright side of things, that Nathan.

Mina smirked. "I do believe you are correct," she said. She could hardly fault that logic.

The ride began, and Mina oh-so-stealthily reached to take hold of his hand with her own.

Nathan certainly didn't seem to mind. After all, his own hand had been en route to meet hers halfway.

"Every now and again, I say something that manages by some miracle to actually make sense," he mused, pleasantly. "It's a gift I possess, really."

"A man of action is often far better than a man of word," Mina remarked. "After all, words can end up hollow and meaningless. Actions, they always have resonance."

"Is that so?"

Pardon him for a moment. He had this nagging thought that perhaps she was hinting at something, here, and so he was going to have to demonstrate that he was, in fact, a man of action. By leaning forward to kiss her.

Nathan Algren was nothing if not a man of action.

Mina had not been hinting at all, this time. In fact, she was more making a comment on the sort of men she preferred in her life.

There was no objection to the kiss, though. Indeed, she found it rather appropriate, given where they were. She gently cupped his face in her other hand, happy in that moment.

And there was kissing, and Nathan saw that it was good.

And when the kiss was finished, he smiled at her, giving the had that he'd been holding a light squeeze.

"Definitely better than the fudge," he decided.

"Perhaps we can stop for ice cream after our time at the carnival," Mina said. "And we can enjoy the hot fudge how God intended."

She was rather pleased at the moment, all things considered.

"An excellent idea, if ever there was one," he decided. See? She absolutely did have better ideas than he did.

... He was still vaguely curious about the fudge wrestling. In a terrible sort of way.

Probably a good thing that Nathan went along with most of her ideas, as well.

"And then you could escort me home," she said. "An acceptable close of the day, indeed."

"That certainly sounds like a plan, to me," Nathan replied, smiling and leaning back into the seat.

And if he was snaking an arm around her shoulder, would there be any problem with that at all?

"In the meantime, Ms. Murray, we appear to still be alone in a dark tunnel."

"I believe that is the point of all this," Mina said. "The tunnel of cheap thrills would probably be a more apt name of this contraption."

She wasn't complaining, just stating an observation. The company made whatever... impropriety she felt all the more enticing rather than appalling.

"For the contraption itself," Nathan agreed. And that? That was absolutely a glint of mischief in his eye, there. "The point, I suppose, is for the people riding to make the thrills decidedly less cheap."

"I find any thrills with you, sir, are hardly cheap," Mina said, trying to take a tiny bit of a high road. "Gentleman or not, you are dignified to say the least."

Nathan never had been one to know what to do with a compliment, really.

"You would take that back in a heartbeat, if you'd seen me in my younger days," he decided.

Nathan, the proper response to that would have been 'thank you,' and then some appropriate flattery in turn. Silly man.

"I'm not sure why you insist on making this so difficult, sir," Mina said, harrumphing just a little. "I do believe we are not in the tunnel of refusing to accept anything good said about ourselves."
