Winter Carnival | All Day | The Park | January 31 [Post #1]

It was a new day and there was no better way to start a new day than with the continuation of the carnival. There was still snow coating the ground but the atmosphere was as lively as ever. With cream-colored decorations and twinkling lights, the Student Council had aimed for a winter wonderland kind of theme, and the snow simply added to the effect. Thankfully, the day was turning out to be warmer, so those who were going to be outside all day wouldn't freeze. Once the finishing touches were done, the carnival was open for business.

Right about that. All this time, wasn't doing anything to make her care less. The opposite, if anything, much as she'd like to pretend otherwise.

"Do you want me to stop?" With other people, that was. Her way of asking without actually having to bring up any of those words they so liked to avoid. Considering that was the whole issue this hurt hinged on, it felt like an important one to get out there.

Dodging it and dodging it obviously wasn't working.

That dull ache in Alex's stomach twisted into something else and it took him a moment to realize it was fucking nervousness. He hadn't expected that particular emotion right now considering he prided himself on not being nervous about anything.

"I--" It wasn't going to come out that easily. He pursed his lips and closed his eyes. Took a breath. "Yes. If you don't want to, I'm not going to flip my shit. I'll just work harder on not...paying attention."

He was confident he could keep repressing shit.

After today, that one wasn't a huge surprise, even if she'd steeled herself in case it was something else. For once, this was really fucking simple.

"Then I'll stop."

Alex managed to get a nod out in response to her answer because even if he'd expected it, it still surprised him, that she'd do that because h wanted it. He just wasn't used to people doing things for him.

"Do you...want me to stop?" he asked, using her own question since it was important and her words were better than any he might try and blubber out.

"Sounds about right, doesn't it?" Yes. Letting it just go on one-sided was not something she'd go along with. Even her lack of firsthand experience here was enough to know she'd hate that.

"Okay. I'll stop," he promised without hesitation. That was easy enough to both say and do. That little pit of nervousness didn't go away and Alex recognized it as being there for the sheer fact that this was...some unfamiliar, unstable ground for the both of them.

"I won't anymore," he said again, nodding.

Managing an entire relationship defining (sort of) conversation, even if they weren't calling it that... Definitely unusual. The part they'd agreed on here, shouldn't even be that hard. Not exactly been out with a different guy every night lately.

Effy managed a nod of her own for him, making sure she tried to meet his eyes now. Only so much time they could spend staring downwards.

"And I'm sorry too." Honestly, he probably deserved one of those more than she did.

And he hadn't made it a point to hop from bed to bed in awhile either. If he'd gone out, he'd ended up with her or back in his room on his own. Griff hadn't been great company but still.

"It's all right," he said automatically, shaking his head and looking up at her. "I mean, it's not necessary. Not the first time we've done this to each other. I think it's a talent."

"Yeah." She exhaled a breath of slight amusement and curled her fingers against his chest. Interesting talent for them to pick, wasn't it? Not much bloody use.

"We good?" she asked after a moment. Well, comparatively so. Nothing was going to be perfect, and ten minutes after an argument like that was hardly gonna contend for it.

"We're good," he answered, reaching out and sliding his hand under her hair and around the back of her neck. He had the brief realization on where they'd just aired a lot of crap out but he shoved that away.

"Got any plans for the rest of the day?" he asked idly, thumb brushing along her skin. "Any requests?"

"No plans," she shared, spreading her fingers out over his shirt again. Little fidget.

"Not gonna wrestle you in fudge sauce," she told him, cracking a small smile. Which wasn't so much a request, as something she thought should be out there. Just in case. "So don't go getting your hopes up."

"You'd lose anyway," he said, letting a smirk and some usual confidence slip out. "So, that's probably for the best anyway."

Not that he'd mind seeing her covered in the fudge sauce or anything. He wasn't insane.

"If I give you a dollar, can I get some impromptu kissing booth action?"

Sometimes he thought he was adorable.

Sometimes, sometimes, he even pulled it off. Or, at this point she'd take any teasing over more of that deep shit.

"Recon I can do one on the house." She didn't need a booth for this.

"And here I was all ready to pay up," he said, grinning and sliding his hand from her neck till it was more around her shoulders. "Want me to ask nicely instead?"

"Didn't know you could," she joked. Not usually something he offered up. "But, it might get you what you want."

"Just because I don't do it doesn't mean I won't do it," he told her, tapping out an erratic pattern against the back of her shoulder. He grinned and leaned a little closer to her, nose brushing against her cheek.

"Can I get a kiss a from you?" he asked, breathing those words into her skin. "Please?"

Got a sort of inclined nod, close as he was going to get, and the best part of her response went into actually kissing him. That was a reply right there.

One she wasn't going to screw up somehow.

Alex was pretty sure she couldn't screw this up, not with him. If anyone did any screwing up, he was pretty sure it'd be him.

But he wasn't thinking about that now because they'd made it through another argument (and this one had been pretty bad) and were back to the part they were really good at.

She kind of tasted like her pink candy. Alex was going to make a point to tease her about that. Sometime. Maybe.

Nothing much wrong with tasting of sugar, was there?

Least, he didn't seem to be taking it badly. Still kissing her, and she was pretty damn confident that he still would be after she looped her arms around his neck and drew him in closer.

Nothing wrong with it at all. He liked the way she tasted, in fact, and even if she didn't taste like sugar, he tended to like the way she tasted.

So no, he wouldn't be taking it badly when she pulled him closer and he wouldn't stop kissing her because of it. After almost every argument, they seemed to end up doing this and Alex was just going to think that was somewhat healthy even if it wasn't.

Healthy was overrated anyway. And they weren't healthy people. Alex smiled a bit against her lips, her mouth and got his other arm around her, looping loosely around her waist to keep her close.

This sort of thing covered a response to a lot of situations for her. Celebration, distraction, a way of avoiding awkward conversations... and, you know, because it was fun and she genuinely did like getting to kiss him, and anything else that led on from there.

Worked for them to stick to the bits they were good at, and they were really fucking great at this.

"You taste sweet," Alex mumbled after pulling back a touch from her. Barely away from her and that was kind of how he wanted it today. He didn't wait that long before closing that distance to kiss her again though.

Maybe he was selfish. Or eager. Or both. Or maybe he just wanted to keep kissing her. Probably that one.

That one worked for her.

"Would've offered," she breathed out, somewhere between kisses. But they'd been busy thinking about other things than sharing candy floss.

"Didn't think you'd go for the cutesy pink." That sounded better, to her.

"I'll leave that to you and your supreme girliness, yeah." Truth be told, he probably would have gone for it because it was free and sugar but since she'd given him the out, he could keep his oh so macho image.

"Just means you owe me," he decided, using Karev logic to get his way, oh yes. "Since you didn't offer."

There was a little sound of amusement from Effy, yeah. Didn't surprise her at all that he'd use even the littlest things to his benefit.

"Of course." He would think that. "What is it you think I owe you, then?"
