April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

"They are, yeah," Reno agreed, thoughtfully. "I ain't been by there in a while, but maybe I should fix that, yo. It'd be a good follow-up project to their sister group puttin' out emergency supply kits this week."

He didn't go to the meetings, but damn right, he listened to the radio to see that they were up to.

"Perhaps I should have stopped by later," Arthur said, after a pause. "Put in a visit, motivate the lads, that kind of thing."

"They still meet on Tuesday," Reno noted, grinning a bit. "We could make some kinda important tag-team visit sometime, checkin' up on matters as... what sounds all official? Founding members?"

"Commanders emeritus?" Arthur suggested.

"I think they got some kinda ointment out for that, now," Reno snorted.

Latin and Reno were not at home to one another.

Arthur clapped him on the shoulder. "You should find yourself someone to school you in Latin, my friend," he said, "It'll do your future some good."

Ahaha, yes. Because they spoke Latin where Reno was from.

Oh yes. Frequently.

"That's what it's called? Kinda sounded like Mexican, to me."

Spanish, Reno. Spanish.

"Mexico. That's in the south, isn't it?"

Please don't mind Arthur; it'd been a while since the last time he got a look at a map of the modern world.

"It's the language of the clergy and other educated men."

"And them people with the big, funny hats?"

Sombreros. But that statement was probably open for interpretation.

"I sure as hell ain't no priest, and I'm pretty far from educated, too. What would I do with Latin, anyhow?"

"Read?" Arthur offered.

After a beat: "Understand stuffy clergy who won't stop talking about the end of days...?"

"Dealt with plenty of people who wouldn't stop talkin' about that in the language I already speak," Reno noted, smirking faintly. "Turns out, they were right."

Stupid Meteor.

"Ah."

Arthur looked briefly uncomfortable.

"Suppose you have, at that." He clapped Reno on the shoulder again. "Ah, well. More stuffy clergy for me to cope with."

"And I'll be happy to leave you to 'em," Reno agreed, shrugging as if there was nothing amiss about the turn the conversation had taken, there. "Anyhow, I already got my second language, here. Al Bhed sygac cahca vun sa, ev E ajan zueh Rikku eh Spira, yo."

Reno still wasn't completely fluent in the language, but living with Rikku meant that he'd picked up a thing or two more than he'd known before graduation.

"Now that sounds positively continental," Arthur said, nonplussed. "What is that?"

"Somethin' they don't have here on Earth, or back on Gaia, either," Reno replied. "Al Bhed is Rikku's native language. Can't hurt for a guy like me to pick up on, if I ever get a mind to get offa this island again."

"Suppose it would make talking to her easier," Arthur had to grant. "Fandom and its many worlds, though, I swear..."

"Leaves you kinda disoriented at the best of times, don't it?" Reno was biting back a chuckle as he lifted his cup of punch. "Could'a been worse, man. You could've ended up with like a half-dozen people you knew who still hadn't met you yet, yo."

Alternate worlds, Reno could handle. Timeline fuckery, on the other hand, he was not a huge fan of.
