April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

"Family," Romeo agreed, wincing a bit because he knew it wasn't something Reno could quite understand. "No, not yet. I don't want to woryr her, and I'd rather find whatever it is on my own."

Or go with what his dad wanted.

"You think she'd have a brilliant idea?"

One of Reno's shoulders hitched up a little bit.

"Couldn't hurt to ask her," he mused. "I mean, we are talkin' about the lady who beat sense into me by throwin' a book at my head. But usually she goes for saner methods, right? She's damn resourceful, yo. Might have some useful hookups in Tokyo somewhere that you can set yourself up with. Pointin' you in a direction you might like ain't the same as doin' all the work for you, yo."

"No, she's thrown things at me," Romeo said lightly, and went quiet for a moment as he slipped the flask out of his pocket and enriched the punch.

It would help him think.

"If I did that," he said quietly, "it might not be taken well by my family. It may be a good idea, but -- I can't be thrown out again. I would have to be careful."

He knew he was taking a friendly suggestion too seriously, and looked apologetic about it.

Reno considered that. Having been punted from the Turks, himself, he had at least a vague notion of what Romeo was talking about.

"They got you crammed right in there between a rock and a hard place, huh?"

Romeo shrugged an uncomfortable shoulder. "Aye, but there are far more painful rocks I could be cast up against. It's petty to complain."

He stirred the punch a bit before adding, "I could be stuck here trying to teach, for example."

That earned a snort and a shake of the head from Reno, right there.

"It ain't so bad. I mean... It ain't the Turks. So, yeah, maybe it kinda sucks that way, but... Beats the shit outta Edge, man."

By a lot.

Romeo raised a sympathetic eyebrow. "Things still aren't any better there?"

"Uh..." Okay, there went Reno's casual smirk. "It's actually kinda complicated, yo. Turks finally packed up and moved themselves off to Junon. Bigger city. Way less destruction. Former company town. They can do more good from there than in Edge, without resources and with a lot more people who can see things their way, yo."

Their way. Not our way. He maybe stressed the word, just a little.

Romeo noted the stress, nodded at it. "It doesn't sound as if you're chomping at the bit to go there."

"Had a bit of a fallin' out with the boss, yo." Reno shrugged. "Figure it's probably best to sit low for a bit. Let him cool down or whatever. Ain't no big deal. I mean, I still got Fandom, and I got Rikku here, right?"

"You have Rikku," Romeo repeated. "The resat of it can take care of itself. And if you ever want to spend time in Tokyo, it'd be our honor."

"I'm thinkin' I'm gonna have to take you up with that next break week, yo." He grinned. "When I ain't jugglin' two jobs here on the island."

Pause.

"I'm gonna end up doin' somethin' real messed up like drinkin' too much sake and eatin' live eels or somethin', ain't I?"

This was Reno. He knew himself.

"Not eels," Romeo said firmly. He liked his meat dead and cooked, thank you very much. "Though there is this thing called natto you may have to try with the sake."

He was only a little evil.

Thoughtfully, he added, "The next break is the one after graduation, isn't it?"

"Pretty sure, yeah," Reno agreed, smirking a little.

Natto? Sounded nasty. Bring it.

"You stoppin' by for that, too? Or am I gonna have to claim you an' Doji away all weekend for beer and pool? Rikku wanted to hang with you guys too, yo."

"Then I need to find her," Romeo said promptly. "And I know not about graduation, but as for this weekend, I've nothing on my calendar until Monday except beer and pool."

"Nice, yo." Reno gave an approving nod of his head, cramming his hands into his pockets again. "Sounds like a damn fine way to spend a weekend, man. Damn fine."
