April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

Mat glared at him. "Well, yes," he was forced to admit. "It's been several weeks since she's talked about making me her cupbearer? I think that's a good sign."

"Or it might mean you're out of a job, my friend," Arthur said. Grinning.

"I have a job, thank you," Mat said airily. "I run the Band. Besides, what cupbearers wear is indecent. You probably noticed them running around the Palace in those robes you could see right through."

Mat had certainly noticed the pretty women, though they'd all seemed to be pulled out of his line of sight as soon as Tylin had noticed him noticing.

"Horribly impractical," Arthur agreed, then paused and pulled a face. "And thanks for the mental image I had no need of."

"Are you saying I'm not pretty?" Mat demanded, failing to keep a straight face.

"Your face looks like the back end of a horse," Arthur flattered him.

"And you'd know," Mat said musingly, "as you've seen so many when the horse that's bucked you gallops off..."

Oh, yeah, he'd insult Arthur's horsemanship.

"Oh, please," Arthur scoffed. "Don't burden me with your own failings. Who's the one currently stuck in a circus?"

The island's testosterone content had totally gone up 200% thanks to the return of these fellows.

"If I didn't know better, I'd swear Valan Luca followed me through the portal and decorated this place," Mat said, glancing around. "And we're hiding in the bloody circus. And going three inches a bloody day. I'll be an old man before we get to the border of Murandy."

"And you don't think all of this falling off your horse has anything to do with it, then...?"

"Despite the many lessons I gained from watching you topple over, no, I'm not slowing anything down," Mat replied. "Master Bloody Luca will stop the whole thing for a village of twenty."

"I have never," Arthur announced, taking a breath just to underscore the fact, "fallen off my horse. Mayhaps your master Luca is just fond of you, however. For reasons I can't fathom."

"Probably my gold," Mat muttered sourly, "and he's not my master. Light forbid that ever be the case. I'd rather dance with the Dark One."

"No news on anything else going on in your world, then," Arthur said, cheerfully.

"Well, people are starting to see the dead walking," Mat said, "so that's bloody fantastic. Nothing I can do about it, so I'm going to ignore it until my grandda comes along to scold me about my gambling."
