April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

Welcome to your April Fools' Dance, children, adults, and alumni.

"Planning on dropping out of high school?" Peter asked, intrigued. "Or is that big internship in DC trying to pull you back?"

She'd only started telling people the truth over the last month; and hadn't caught up with Peter in a while, she realized. "A little of both." She smirked sideways, then said, "Remember that secret I was keeping? Do you still want to know what it was?"

Peter was a little startled, but nodded. "If you really want to share big secrets at a high school dance, I'm willing to hear them," he said. "I may be kind of... okay, a lot of an ass at times, but that doesn't mean I'm going to betray your trust."

"Thanks," Scully said, her voice level. "It's become less of a secret lately... just, don't spread it around." She sighed, then pointed to herself. "Sixteen year old outside." Then to her head. "Thirty-six-year-old inside."

Peter's eyes went wide for a moment.

"Why the hell would you go to high school again, then?"

"Enemies at home," Scully said, then grimaced. "Well. Less 'enemies', and more 'scientifically inclined amoral enthusiasts' who'd be happy to try to dissect how this happened." She shrugged. "Hiding in a high school is better camouflage than most other options. Particularly this one."

"Yeah, okay, vivisection is less appealing than high school," Peter said. "I can't argue that."

And wow, that was a lot more serious than he had expected. "I swear, I come from the stablest background out of anyone I've gotten to know here. And that's terrifying."

Oh, you just didn't know all the facts, Peter.

Scully gave him a sideways smile. "Well, your dad was-- mostly harmless?" Well. Unless his attention wandered. "So, yes. I never intended to be stuck her this long, of course." She grimaced. "I think I'm regressing." Said in a slightly smaller voice. "But. It's a good place to try and figure it out."

"Figure out what happened? Or figure out something else?" Peter asked, setting his drink down on a nearby table.
