Three Minute Dates- Caritas- Saturday before 8:15 pm

It was that time agaaaaaain! There was a sign on the door and a banner above the stage.

THREE MINUTE DATES

Or maybe, perchance, you totally missed it somehow, and didn't run from the bar before Tino could sign you up for dates. It happens!

And then a few minutes before 8:00, Kitty took the stage under the banner, to a drumroll from the zombie drummer.

"Hello and welcome to another installment of Three Minute Dates!" Kitty began. "In case you're new to this, in a couple minutes I'm going to call out sets of names. You'll find that person, talk to them for a whole three minutes. When you hear this siren-" Oh, that was an obnoxious air horn sound. "-you'll get a new person to talk to. If you got sucked into this without your knowledge, sorry, and also it's fifteen minutes of your life, make some new friends!"

"Oh, hey. Annie." Prompto had to grin a little, as the roller-coaster that was his Three Minue Dates experience thus far settled into a more pleasant spot, because, yeah, he didn't really know her well, but he remembered her from a few of the summer shenanigans, especially when they'd been pitted against each other in Tag, and she seemed really nice! Pretty, too! Which, no offense to his last dates, but he was definitely glad to be paired with a pretty good for this time around! "How've you been?"

"I'm all right," Annie told him with a smile, before huffing out a little breath and making a face because phew, this really was a whirlwind. "How're you, Prompto? I've never done this before, so I'm grateful it's mostly been familiar faces."

"I'm good, I'm good!" Prompto said, maybe a little too eagerly, but that was just him riding the wave of his luck feeling like it was turning around a little. Not that there was a whole lot left to go. "I've had....well....it's a small island, familiar faces wind up being kind of inevitable, y'know?"

And sometimes those familiar faces were your former teacher and your sister's dad, and then two cute girls who were very much in solid relationships, sooooooooooo....

Why did he keep doing this to himself??

"I totally met a guy I've never met before last date," Annie offered. "Last time, Diego's brother signed him up for this and I got to mock from the bar, so it's like, karma that it's my turn. Any luck with your dates so far?"

Even for the single amongst them, it didn't seem like this necessarily led to much? Maybe? She had no idea, though.

Well, this here was a young man who was still incredibly tied up on his ex who hated his guts and shared a bed with two other men that outclassed him on every single level every weekend, so....he was really kind of desperate for anything.

"Well," he offered, because he would give this trend this, it did make for a pretty easy way to paint a picture for everyone on how things were going, "my first one was with my sister's dad, so..."

Excuse him while he latched back onto 'I'm only subjecting myself to this for my friends' part of it all.

"My friends seem to be having a good time with it, though!"

You know, the friends that could charm their way out of (or into!) a situation with their hands tied behind their backs, probably...

"Okay, we'll come back to your friends, but -- you had a date with Liam?" Prompto, if you were looking for someone to be just horrified on your behalf, boy had you come to the right girl. "Oh my God, Prompto, that's like...new levels of awkward, I'm so sorry."

And honestly? It was kind of nice to just have someone really get just how awkward and weird that was, so Annie? Annie. Thank you, from the bottom of Prompto's miserable little unlucky heart right now, because it was going to feel so good to just let this out.

"Ohmygoooooooood." Like a dam had broken, Prompto gushed curling forward slightly as he expressed what he'd been trying to downplay this whole time. "You have no idea! And this isn't even the first time it's happened! I got matched up with him on the last three minute dates, too! It's, like, dude! Come on! That's my sister's dad!

"And then my other date," he added, because now he was letting it all out, "the one right before this one? Used to be my teacher! Like....!"

Dating was super hard in this town!

...okay, dating was super hard in any town if you were Prompto, but that wasn't the point!

"The only thing I guess I can be glad for is that my ex didn't how up, too," he added in a miserable murmur.

"That is some bad luck," Annie sympathized, reaching over to give his arm a reassuring little pat. "Like, it's bad enough that, like, half the people here are in relationships already," Liam included, actually, but that was beside the point, "but the sheer weirdness of having to go on a date with your sister's dad. And like, the teacher thing I guess isn't that bad, but I also didn't go to high school here, so." And all of her teachers had been, you know, appropriately un-sexy middle-aged adults, not hot, barely-qualified twenty-and-thirty-somethings!

"Who's your ex?" she added, sympathetic. "I'll run interference for you if I see her. Him? Them?"

"Her," Prompto supplied helpfully, giving Annie a grateful look for the reassurances and the offer. "She, uh, keeps mostly to herself these days, though," and there was that constant stab in his gut of guilt as to whether or not that was a good thing, if he should maybe do more to reach out to Yang and let her know that, even with what happened, everything between them could be fine... "so I don't think you'll have to worry about it, but, hey." He managed to pull up a little smile. "I appreciate the offer.."

Ugh, Annie, you just had to be all sweet and nice and make Prompto's poor little heart go all too mush right now, huh? But he had at least one more chance to make something out of this evening coming up here, and pretty soon, probably, so he had to just bolster that right back up quickly.

Annie would have to try to not be all sweet and nice, but hopefully it at least felt good to get that Liam frustration out!

"Offer stands if you need it," Annie promised, as the airhorn did indeed sound. "I hope your last date goes well! And like, at least isn't with...a relative, or anything."

That's where we're setting the bar, okay.

Yup. That was....definitely where the bar was being set for him, wasn't it?

Prompto sort of took a moment to feel that in his bones, and bobbed his head a little in a resigned nod. "Yup, well," he said, "at least the chances on that are slim."

What were the odds, now, that his last date would wind up being with some long lost clone of his?

Not as low as he'd have liked, that's for sure!

"But thanks, Annie," he offered, before he started drifting toward the next and final round. "This was nice."
