Three Minute Dates- Caritas- Saturday before 8:15 pm

It was that time agaaaaaain! There was a sign on the door and a banner above the stage.

CARITAS PRESENTS
THREE MINUTE DATES


Or maybe, perchance, you totally missed it somehow, and didn't run from the bar before Tino could sign you up for dates. It happens!

And then a few minutes before 8:00, Kitty took the stage under the banner, to a drumroll from the zombie drummer.

"Hello and welcome to another installment of Three Minute Dates!" Kitty began. "In case you're new to this, in a couple minutes I'm going to call out sets of names. You'll find that person, talk to them for a whole three minutes. When you hear this siren-" Oh, that was an obnoxious air horn sound. "-you'll get a new person to talk to. If you got sucked into this without your knowledge, sorry, and also it's fifteen minutes of your life, make some new friends!"


[So much OCD incoming. OCD is up! Date away! A post for Caritas after the dates will go up Saturday!]

Well, look at that! Amaya was two for two so far on new names and less familiar faces, which was always a nice surprise. Sure, she didn't get out as much as she probably should, but sometimes, she felt she'd been here so long that it was sort of a surprise she didn't just pick up on who everyone was by simple osmosis or something like that.

So she went right in for the greeting. "Amaya Blackstone," she offered, along with a gloved hand. "Local blacksmith, teacher of shop class and weapons, usually. You need any metal work or weapons made, I'm probably your gal."

She had to get the important stuff out there first and foremost, right?

"Good to meet ya."

"You know, I don't know of any pressing metalwork or weaponry needs," Irene replied, and gloved hand, meet sleekly-manicured hand. "But what a good person to have in one's back pocket! Irene Adler, pleasure to meet you, Amaya."

She paused, considering, and added, "Sword-y weapons, right? I'm more of a firearms kind of lady."

What gave it away? The fact that Amaya still dressed like she was on her way to a Ren Faire despite having been in the modern world for almost five years now?

But she gave a firm, confident nod in the affirmative. "Sword-y weapons, axe-y weapons, spiky, pointy weapons, too," she confirmed. "I'm...working on the firearms part of weaponry, and I'm starting to get a stronger hand at it, but unless you're also into some experimental shooting, which I imagine most people aren't, I'm probably not much help there. Yet."

IT WAS A HINT, YES. The whole blacksmith thing was a hint, honestly.

"Yeah, I don't know that experimental needs to be a way I describe my guns," Irene mused. "But I suppose you can never have too many knives, right?"

Honestly, there might be something to that.

"I own Dite's," she added, gesturing vaguely in the correct direction of the shop. "The sex place."

There was definitely something to that, and Amaya would have said as much whole-heartedly if it weren't for the distraction in trying to, at first, place the shop Irene was talking about, and then...being able to definitely place the shop Irene was talking about.

Amaya's head had tilted a little with curiousity at first, and then tilted back a little more in a very different way.

"...ah," she said, chin going back down. "Can't say I've ever been."

And even if she had, it was certainly not the business of anybody here, not even the owner!

Look, Irene would play along if people she recognized came in and wanted to pretend she didn't know them; minding one's own business was the name of the sex store-owning game.

That being said.

"You should come in!" Irene told her with a broad smile. "Maybe we could work out a trade. I'll buy some knives off you, you buy some...whatever you might need at Dite's."

"Ah," said Amaya slowly, "a barter..."

She was pretty sure there was nothing she could think of that she would need from the sex store, and, even if that statement was actually false and she actually could think of something, she definitely wasn't about to go eagerly bartering for it.

"Have to admit," she hedged, a certain pinkish color slowly rising up to enhance the natural ruddiness of her forge-scorched cheeks,"I've gotten so used to working with currency these days that I'm not even sure I'd know how to barter effectively anymore!"

The part of her that very, very, very much loved a good barter was kind of dying inside of her right now for all the flagrant lies.

Oh, that was actually very cute, that blush. It was also not going to dissuade Irene from trying to make Amaya blush more, if she could.

"You know, I've hardly ever bartered," Irene confessed, which wasn't entirely true but was true in the sense that Irene, being from 2012, generally used currency for the most part. "But do come in some time? And if there's anything in there that catches your fancy, I'll throw it in a discreet paper bag and trade you for some knives, yeah?"

Amaya had absolutely no intention of ever, ever stepping foot in that shop unless, somehow, the island just straight up put her there, which....was an idea that had now manifested and so, zards, it was going to eventually happen somehow, wasn't it?

But even knowing that, she was conflicted to even let the suggestion of a completely unnecessary and totally nothing she would ever, ever need or use or be interested in, really, honest, swear on her hammer.... pass her by for a potential trade.

"The same," she said, with extra awkward emphasis, "goes for you and my shop, as well! Should you happen to wander in some time. Can't miss it! It's the one with the big fire and two whole anvils!"

Honestly, Amaya was very proud of herself for getting that out as smoothly as she had.

"Two anvils, you say?" Irene checked as the airhorn sounded. "So I've taken a wrong turn if there's just the one anvil?"

She was teasing, yes, but honestly, it wasn't as though Irene would know what an anvil even looked like without the help of Warner Brothers.

"I will definitely see you around, Amaya," she added, making a note to definitely find this fire-and-anvils shop at some point. Wasn't as though she didn't dry-clean everything, anyway; her Armani could take a little smoke-scenting.
