It was that time of year again! New people were here! New people to date, get to know, or perhaps make a mortal enemy of!

You never know.

Signs were hung up in front of the bar, both obviously, and easy to miss for anyone who might wander in and get signed up without their knowledge. Above the bar was a banner (in glitter):

TONIGHT!
THREE MINUTE DATES!
GOOD LUCK WBRURBODY

Your hostess wasn't gonna question it. And a few minutes before 8:00, she took the stage.

"Hello, everyone! And welcome to Three Minute Dates!" Kitty greeted them. "If you're new to this, the rules are simple. We call your name along with one other person. You talk to this person, get to know their likes, their loves, their dreams. After three minutes, a buzzer will sound-" Pause for the sound. "-and you'll hear your name paired with a different person. Et cetera. If there is anyone you'd like to talk to more, the bar will be open afterwards for drinks and conversation. Remember that any violence will get you transported into the pond, but also please don't attempt violence in order to flee, that is rude to the rest of your dates. Now I'm going to get off the stage. Have fun, and good luck..."

She trailed off, not going to attempt to pronounce the word on that sign.

"Same nonsense as usual. Think I need to hire some new library aides, I never seem to remember when the kids graduate," he mused. "--how'd you get shot? I know this is America, but this place is fairly sensible when it comes to that sort of thing."

"I wasn't here, I was in space. Rey's space. Not my space. Or anyone else's. There was a battle."

That was a bit of an understatement, but sure.

"Mate, you have got to ease off on the hero business," John said sympathetically. "It'll chew you up and spit you out. What are you drinking? Next round's on me."

"I'm not a hero." Heroes didn't have to get dragged (or flung by the Force) to safety, did they? "Rey needed help. So I tried to help. She's my friend."

"This," he said, holding up his glass, "is the drink named for me." It glowed. Because of the glow cube, but still. "But I could have something else instead."

"Literally, whatever you want next. You got shot, I'm just providing physical or emotional pain relief," he said, making a face.

"Though if you need a jot of magic healing to speed it up, you know where to find me."

"It's already much better," Stark said. Bacta was some good shit. "But thank you. I'd drink another of these, I think? No need for healing."

John waived at the bar, pointing at Stark's drink and holding up a finger for one more. "You're a genuinely nice bloke, Stark. Try not to get shot at, yeah? World's a better place with people like you in it."

"I didn't do it on purpose. I don't like getting shot. Or shot at. But thank you. For the drink."

And for the comment, really.

But there was the buzzer.

"Enjoy the rest of your night."
