Valentine's Dance; Town Hall; Friday Evening [8 pm - 10 pm]

Arrivals to town hall would notice that the Student Council took a darker approach to the decorations this year. The colors of the streamers, balloons and table cloths were in shades of dark red and black. Instead of cut outs of hearts and pictures of cupid, there were broken mirrors hanging on the walls, open umbrellas scattered about the room, fake cobwebs on the wall and glittery cut outs of the number "13" hung everywhere.

You even had to walk under a huge ladder in order to get into the dance.

Sure, they were tempting fate by having a Friday the 13th themed dance but this was Fandom. What's the worst that could happen?

"No," Leto said. "Does it stop you?"

"Yes," Ben said, making a face. "But only because both of my parents could read my mind and yank my hair from across a room."

And because by nature he was a rule-follower. Shh.

He frowned a little. "That must be a disadvantage."

"It's who they are," Ben said with a shrug. "They don't do it on purpose."

"No," he said. "We don't choose our parents, nor their good or their bad sides."

"Or grandparents, for that matter," Ben said wryly.

"Or grandparents." Leto had to agree there too. "Who are your parents?"

"You have no idea how nice it is to hear someone ask," Ben said with a smile. "Everyone at home knows. My dad is Luke Skywalker, Grand Master of the Jedi Order. My mother was Mara Jade Skywalker, who sat on the Masters' Council."

They were kind of big deals.

"I know that feeling," Leto said. "So your father is the son of Anakin Skywalker." Yes, he tried to understand this properly. "And is Jaina related to you too, then?"

"Jaina's my cousin," Ben said. "She's my dad's twin sister's daughter. Her parents are Princess Leia Organa Solo and Han Solo."

Leto was beginning to get a mental picture of the Skywalker family tree. "I see."

"She's a twin, too," Ben offered. "I'm not."

He always felt he'd been missing out by not being one.

"She is? But her twin isn't here?" His voice may have betrayed that Leto found being away from his twin sister a bad thing best avoided.

And now Ben felt a little bad about bringing this up. "Jacen died," he said. "At least in her version of the galaxy. In mine, he's still around."

He fell silent, throwing a glance across the room towards Ghanima. "Then I hope she was able to avenge his death."

"We're not really allowed to the...vengeance...thing," Ben said carefully.

"No?" Leto looked seriously surprised.

"We have access to a lot of power. When we start channeling it for revenge or other dark uses, bad things happen," Ben said.

He left of the "especially in my family" part. Leto didn't need to know that.

"Revenge is dark? It's an emotion set in motion, nothing more." He smiled.

"It's angry emotion set in motion," Ben replied.

"Why is that important?" Leto asked, sincerely curious.

Ben frowned. "Anger leads to hate," he recited. "And hate leads to the dark side."

"Hate is part of being human," Leto replied. He looked across the room again towards his sister. "If someone hurt Ghanima I would not let that person live. I know she would do the same should something happen to me."

"Hate has no part in being Jedi," Ben said. "Galactically bad things happen when we allow ourselves to hate."

"They do?" Leto raised an eyebrow. "But hate is not something you can permit or forbid. You can just channel it."
