As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

Bod wandered over to the food tables after arriving, pick up a few pieces of fruit. He was proud that he hadn't automatically made for the shadowy corners. It seemed like progress to him even if those corners made him feel oddly comfortable.

It was a party! No one Ariel knew was safe, so when she spotted Bod, she waved enthusiastically at him, almost as if evil fish never existed between them.

She had no right to hold evil fish against him when she'd been eating some, really.

She smiled, tilting her head with the curious look to ask how he was doing.

"Hullo, Ariel," he said, pleased to see she didn't seem angry with him anymore. "I'm doing pretty well. Yesterday was a bit strange but it seems to be over for the time being."

Ariel snorted a little, puffing up her bangs briefly, to show what she thought of yesterday, and then shook her head to dispel of any thought of it. She was over it, really! They were here, in this great party, which she gestured to excitedly. Wasn't he excited? She sure was. She lifted her arm as a center for a little twirl, to show that she couldn't wait for dancing.

"You're going to dance?" he guessed, grinning. "Have you danced before or would this be a new experience for you?"

Going to dance? As if there was any question about it. Ariel put her hand to her heart, swooning with how much she absolutely loved dancing. She planned to dance until her feet feel off...

Well, not literally. In a way, that could have worked figuratively, but if she broke the spell tonight, she still got to keep the feet, so never mind.

She pointed to Bod, then to herself, and then raised a curious eyebrow. Think he could save a dance for her at some point?

"You'd like to dance with me?" Bod asked, surprised. "You wouldn't worry that I might be awful at it?"

Well, now the he brought it up....

Psh! Ariel waved a dismissive hand. Bod was just too modest. How could he be bad at it?

Of course, she realized that it was entirely true that he could be, but she was pulling her A game tonight, and every opportunity must be taken. Bad dancing had just as much a kissing possibility as good dancing, if not more. Good dancing, she'd be distracted with the dancing. Bad, she had an opportunity for comforting. It would all work out.

"If you're confident enough to take me on, I'm sure we could find some time to dance," he assured her, nodding. "I think I could keep your feet safe from mine. I've had some practice dancing."

Ariel smirked, as if to say please. She'd faced sharks before, she could handle having her toes stepped on.

Of course, she never had toes to get stepped on, so she was just working on an assumption here. But how bad could it be?

She held up her hands to alert to Bod that she was going to try to gesture something. She put her hands on one side of her, which indicated now. And then moved them to the other side of her to indicate later it the evening, and in this space she made her fingers dance around like they might be dancing around. Later in the evening, so that he had aaaaaalll this time (swooping her hand across the space from point two back to point one) to get warmed up.

And sometimes when she did these gestures, she thought it was really a wonder she was ever able to get anything across to people.

Bod paid close attention, trying to pick up what she was gesturing with. "Something about dancing."

His brow furrowed thoughtfully while he went back through those gestures. "We're going to dance later? Did I get that right?"

Two little fists went up in a cheer. Yes! He'd gotten it! Grinning at Bod, Ariel tapped her forehead; he was so smart! She waved her hand in the general direction of later, so that he (pointing now to Bod) could....

...Ariel just sort of moved her arms in front of her in a little bit of a dance of its own, because she only realized until that moment that she didn't know how to gesture warm up. Oh, well, he'd picked up on enough of it, it seemed.

"You think I should go practice?" he asked, snickering now. "You're probably right. I think I need it. I haven't danced since the last dance we had."

Well, Ariel had really only dance twice in her whole life, but she was a natural and everything. She gave a firm nod, sealing the deal, and held up a finger of warning to Bod that he'll see her later, when she went to find him and get her dance.
