As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

Ariel was hardly going to limit her options on her very first dance ever by arriving with a date! Dressed, of course, in another pink dress (http://www.bluefly.com/Laila-magenta-textured-chiffon-strapless-dress/cat20110/304053001/detail.fly) from the store, she breezed in with a swing already to her step and a happy, excited sigh. One look at the place and she had a strong feeling that if there was any night to break the spell on her, this would definitely be it.

Puck sidled up to Ariel when he spotted her, actually looking a bit sheepish. "So, hi, I'm normal again today," he greeted her. Might as well get that out of the way. "Um, we can just like, ignore yesterday forever."

Now that definitely had to be answered with a skeptical look that questioned whether or not Puck was ever really normal. She'd thought about it and, as really her best chance, she didn't exactly want to be all annoyed or anything, and she could brush it off easily enough at the party, but then she really considered it, and come on, now. Maybe, just maybe, if she wasn't cursed to no voice unless she got a kiss, it could slide.

But she was cursed. And that would have been a really great kiss.

So she decided all there was to do was shrug and give him her best hey, you're the one who missed the awesome birthday kiss look.

Puck gave her his very saddest look. "Come on, you wouldn't make a guy grovel on his birthday, would you?" And now there were sad, sad puppy eyes. "The island or something made everyone act insane. Kate and Hannibal were weird too."

Well, if Kate and Hannibal stuck their hands in a shark's jaw...

But who was Ariel kidding? With that look and the fact that, really, Ariel couldn't be burning any bridges, she let herself appear to slowly, reluctantly, hesitantly acquiesce. She sighed oh-so-pointedly, shook her head, but let a smirk slide onto her face. She held up a finger. He owed her one, just like she'd said yesterday, and hitched her thumb over her shoulder toward the dance floor.

If he really felt bad about the whole thing, he could make up for it there.

Puck arched an eyebrow before cocking a grin at her. "Wanna -- no, wait, I should do this right. May I have this dance?" he asked, dipping a little bow and holding out his hand.

See, he could be charming and sweet when he wanted.

Oooh. That he could. Ariel was sufficiently impressed, grinning only a bit before pulling herself up, all proper and everything because she could be proper when she wanted. And only for the right people. Looking very impressed and flattered by the kindly offer, Ariel bobbed her head in a regal nod (she was a princess, let's not forget), curtsied, and took the proffered hand.

And with that, Puck pulled her out to the dance floor (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/5225234.html?thread=206037522#t206037522).

Like Rinoa wasn't going to wave at her mute BFF. "Hey!" she said. "Cute dress!!"

Rinoa! Ariel waved back excitedly, and then she held out her arms because oh my gosh, she thought Ariel's dress was cute? Rinoa's was gorgeous, even if it wasn't pink.

"Thanks!!" Rinoa said, spinning for the full 360 view. "I knew he was going to be stubborn, so I had to go all out. Look how cute he looks in uniform!"

'He' being Squall, naturally, because who else would Rinoa be talking about.

"Did you come with Puck??"

Oh, puh-leeze. Ariel waved her hands dismissively. With so many other attractive guys she could dance with if she left herself unburdened with a date?

...That, and Puck didn't ask, so...

But she did crane her neck to scope out where Rinoa's kind-of boyfriend was, and begrudgingly allowed that he did look pretty darn good all dressed up like that. He cleaned up well!

But he was still kind of a jerk.

He was totally a jerk. He did it on purpose, so people wouldn't realize he wasn't actually a jerk underneath. Squall was weird like that.

"Better to go stag," she said. "Gives you options! Lets you play the field! Too many cute boys to be stuck with just one for the whole night! You've got a dance card to fill!"
