As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

"Good thing you got new clothes," Didi offered, frowning a bit. She would have offered what happened to Elvis in her world, but it was blurry in her head. The blur frightened her.

"And I didn't know that about Elvis," she said, which was not technically a lie. "Did he sing? Did the cats sing?"

//He... muttered a good deal. About blue suede shoes and such. But I think his feline accompaniment was hiding.//

Jono really didn't blame them, any.

What he could do was hesitate for a moment, and then let his expression take on a somewhat worried tone. //Are you alright, luv?//

"I lost my necklace," Didi said. "Stresses me out. I'm not really me without it, plus it's not exactly something you want floating around."

"And I picked a fight with Del yesterday. I hate yesterday."

//I wasn't really all-there for most of yesterday,// Jono admitted, making that mental note to keep an eye out for Didi's necklace, if at all possible. //So I haven't really had much to hate. Have you had a chance to speak with yer sister since, at least? To sort things out?//

It had seemed like one of those Fandom things. It had certainly sounded like one over the radio. So it wasn't exactly Didi's fault that she'd been picking fights, he was sure.

"Haven't seen her," Didi admitted. "And ... she's not exactly the phone type. I was hoping she'd be at the dance."

Thoughtfully, she added, "Yesterday was just -- all wrong. Backwards."

Jono nodded a little, thinking back on how much of the radio broadcast had just sounded absolutely sideways last night.

//From th'sound of things, you weren't the only one affected by it, luv.//

Just think of poor Professor Skywalker.

"Del was off too," Didi agreed. "Except off for Del is, y'know. Sane."

"She was... all together, you mean?// Jono tilted his head a little. //Must definitely be something Fandom thought up, then.//

What a relief?

"Together, blonde, blue-eyed ... a little prissy," Didi confirmed. "She's probably happy to be back to herself, too."

She gave him a rueful smile. "Always an adventure, right?"

//Never a dull moment,// Jono agreed. //Which tends to make it all th'more appealing when the island does end up giving us a moment in edgewise.//

It had been a long, weird, busy week. Moments edgewise were much appreciated.

... He still had purple polish on his nails.

Didi took that moment to look down at his hands. "Hey, check you out," she said in appreciation. "Who gave you the manicure?"

That earned a baffled blink before Jono looked down and remembered that sleepover thing on Tuesday.

//Rinoa,// he replied, holding up his hand and staring for a moment at his fingers. His nails twinkled. //I had to accept honorary girl status in order to spend th'night in my own cabin.//

No, he didn't have to. But it seemed like a better option than running off and hiding, somehow.

//I'd meant to take it off.//

"Don't," Didi said, almost pleading. "I really like it. Even if it was the result of a devious plot."

//This is my masculinity,// Jono insisted, wiggling his fingers at her as if somehow that was proving a point. //Masculinity isn't supposed to be glittery, luv.//

There was a moment's pause before he added, //But I suppose at least it isn't pink.//

"I guarantee you your masculinity will not be compromised by a little purple nail polish," Didi said. "Promise. I still like you, right?"

//Is that you asking me, or telling me?// He was teasing, and was going to demonstrate that much by taking one of those wiggling fingers and aiming a poke for the end of her nose. //The polish won't look terribly good in a couple of days, at any rate. Th'moment I pick up my guitar again, it'll be atrocious, I'm certain.//

"So is shredded nail polish more masculine?" Didi asked, giggling a bit at the poke. The goofy conversation was making her feel much, much better. "Or ... are you going to ask one of the girls for some nail polish remover and take it off before then?"

//I have serious doubts that any of the girls in my cabin would be so willing to oblige,// Jono mused. //I might have to make a pit-stop in town to get some for myself, I suppose. Unless you had some.//

Because, really, there was very little that was less appealing than chipped nail polish. Right?

"I might," Didi said, glancing down at her own bare nails. "I'm not much for nail polish, though. Just never got into the habit. But I suspect T&C would sell me some?"

//I'd be surprised if they wouldn't,// Jono pointed out, bemused. //Would Apu withhold on a sale out of sheer principle? 'No, you can't buy this nail polish remover, because yer boyfriend clearly needs purple nails for th'rest of his life.'//

"You've met Apu," Didi reminded him. "He might decide he can't sell it just to bug me. Or he might like purple nails on men."
