As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

"I would think the type for dance class would be someone who wasn't solid in their dancing," Dimitri suggested.

"Yeah, but I'm a guy." Alex said that like Dimitri should just know why he didn't think himself the type.

Dimitri raised one eyebrow to convey he had noticed this fact. "Clearly."

Right, maybe Dimitri needed some help with this. "Dancing isn't considered very...masculine."

"I'm aware. And generally thankful I'm not required to participate in dances very often." At least not since his last transfer. Clubs were different.

"So, if that's the case, I think you should dance at this one," he said, still trying to push that. "Make up for lost time and all."

Still strange, this one. "I wasn't planning on staying long enough for that to happen, but I'll consider it."

"Ah, got a hot date with your couch?" he wondered. "Hot date with your computer? This seems to be the only thing happening in town tonight."

"I've been away for a few days," Dimitri admitted. "So in a way, yes. And I know how these things go the later it gets." How many drunken teens did Dimitri feel like dealing with? Probably none.

"You're sounding like you're some old man who has a bedtime," Alex said, teasing him a bit. "Do you have a bedtime?"

If Alex worked full time, trained a student, and did opposite hours guard duty he too would have a bedtime.

"In a way. Do I get a pass for not having slept since..." Dimitri did the mental time conversion. "Friday afternoon?"

"...all right, yeah, you get a pass," Alex decided because that was a long time to go without sleep. "Been that busy? Or just insomnia?"

"Busy," Dimitri answered simply. Explaining his particular reasons for not napping when he had the chance would be too complicated. "Plus we live on a nocturnal schedule where I'm from, ah but you probably knew that."

"You and the undead cows," he said, nodding. "I'm sure if you dance you'll get tired quicker and be able to sleep easier."

Still trying!

"Undead cows?" Dimitri repeated curiously, even though he hadn't missed that Alex had a strange desire to see him dance.

"Yeah, the undead cows," Alex said, nodding. "Rose told me there's undead cows there."

Of course, that had started during some rather trying times and he'd just held onto it to make the whole vampire thing seem a little less scary.

Right. "Rose is...odd at times." Take the train for instance.

"There's a story behind the undead cows," Alex explained, smiling a bit. "Ask her to tell you and I think it'll make sense. Let's just say I needed something...a little silly to give me some clarity."

"No need for explanations," Dimitri answered. "I'm sure it's none of my business."

"I think I've built the undead cows up so much, I'm almost expecting them to be real," Alex confessed. "Setting myself up for a letdown, I think."

"Probably so. Unless they're tall, thin, and pale..." And even then difficult to find.

"I might make Rose draw me an undead cow and stick it on some fence post in Montana," he decided. "Just so I'm comforted if I ever get up that way."

"I'll have to watch out for it," Dimitri replied slowly.

Hey Dimitri, at least this had gotten him off the topic of making you dance!

"You think she'd do it?" he wondered thoughtfully.

"If she knew where to find a fence," Dimitri replied using far too much logic for something Rose-related.
