Summer Dance/Gala Event | Evening | Saturday | June 19

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

"Hmm." Rose made a good point. "We seem to be suffering a breakdown of communication." Not that they would have come together had they realized, perish the thought.

"That sounds like a pretty bad problem," she teased. "Think it's fixable?"

"I don't know, it seems severe," he answered, looking very serious about this.

"Sounds like it's gonna be hard to fix," Rose admitted, barely letting herself smirk at the slight dirty. "I don't know..."

"Perhaps we should back away and pretend we didn't meet here," Dimitri suggested. Because that would happen.

"That doesn't sound like so much fun," she pointed out. "We could pretend we came together and this never happened..."

Shock of shocks, she was suggesting a fake date?

"You do realize that would mean you'd be obliged to dance with me." It would be a terrible hardship for her.

Rose looked up at him in surprise. "You'd want to dance with me?" Not that there was a reason for her to be surprised about that, but still.

Really? Dimitri should not have been surprised that Rose was going to make him frown at her over this. "Is there some reason I shouldn't?"

Okay, now she was feeling stupid. "I just - dancing doesn't seem like your thing? I - it's no big deal."

And he was feeling like an idiot, leading to an unfortunate reaction. "Don't worry, Rose. I won't ask."

That wasn't what she'd wanted to happen. "No!" Rose stepped closer again, the feeling of being an idiot totally mutual.

She made a face at him, obviously worried. "...okay, can we start over? I'll buy you a drink and tell you how hot you look."

It was clear they were not very practiced at attempting fake dates. "Starting over could be good," Dimitri replied, shoving his loose hair back behind his ear.

Rose put up a finger for him to wait for her and found her way over to the bar.

A few minutes later, she came back with two shots of vodka and handed him one. "Told you I'd buy you a drink."

Told to wait, he did, not finding it a hardship to watch her walk away and return. "I didn't think you meant that part," Dimitri said even as he accepted the shot.

"Why wouldn't I mean it?" She smirked at him then raised her glass. "To...us?"

Saying the words seemed almost like breaking their understanding, but it was the kind of thing you said on a fake date, right?

"To us," he repeated, mimicking her gesture with an interested look before tossing the shot back like it was water. In fact, it kind of was like water. Really weak water.

Rose made a face as she swallowed the vodka and barely kept herself from coughing.

"...okay, how did you do that without dying?"

"Why are you dying?" Dimitri countered, reaching a hand to her arm. "That stuff hardly passes as vodka."

"Hey, they said they gave me the good stuff!" Rose protested, moving to turn and stomp back over to the bar to yell at them.

Dimitri chuckled at her protest but reached to snag hold of her wrist and pull her back towards him. "They gave you what they had and would just give you more for questioning it."

She let him pull her closer, enjoying ending up right next to him. "Well now I owe you a drink," she decided.

She was aware he didn't much have the opportunity for drinking, so Dimitri didn't point out that it wasn't likely to happen. "A Russian drink? Or do you mean a milkshake?"
