A series of tents (in various sizes) and covered walkways had sprung up all over the park by midday. There were lots of open spaces, but one could easily get to any part of the carnival without venturing out into the sunlight. Only some of the seating and the big rides - the Ferris wheel, swings, and merry-go-round sat out in the open.

The sounds and smells reached all inhabited parts of the island and it was hard to miss all of the bright colors.

The Homecoming Carnival is open to all residents of Fandom. Weather modding says that any showers predicted for today will miss the island completely. It is a lovely fall day, if a bit warm. This is post one of two and has the concessions, seating, games, rides, and the mud pit which are all free to mod. The second post is here. OCD is up! Have fun!]]

"That's a definite possibility," John replied. "But I'm kinda hoping my parent's invite gets lost in the mail."

"If not, we can hide together," Lee offered with a smile. "Camp out or something."

"Hope you're good at stealth," John smiled. "You know, for effective hiding and all."

"I grew up with William Adama as my father," Lee said without thinking that John wouldn't know who that was. "Had to be good at stealth."

"I take it he's a militant kind of guy?" John asked, not knowing the name should mean anything.

"Sorry," Lee apologized. "Yeah, commander in the Colonial Fleet. Pretty militant."

"Nice," John widened his eyes knowingly. "I'm sure you feel no pressure whatsoever."

"None at all," Lee said, pasting on a fake grin. "Things are never easy, are they?"

"What are you talking about? Life's easy as pie," John rolled his eyes and made a face. "I sense strong coping skills in you."

"Let's back up for a minute," Lee said, finally getting off his own issues. "Whose relative are you dating?"

"I never said I was dating anyone's relative," John pointed out.

Frak. "Well, right. Where'd that observation come from then? That was random."

"It makes sense that a teacher wouldn't like you, if you were say," John really couldn't help the grin, "dating their granddaughter or something."

"Dating their granddaughter," Lee repeated. "Would you have personal experience in that?"

"I might," he said vaguely. "So, have you met any special people here in Fandom?"

"Special like this granddaughter special?"

"Possibly," he said. "Taking anyone to the dance?"

"No date," he said quietly. "Didn't ask anyone."

"Oh," he was surprised. "Some other pressing engagement for the evening?"

"Didn't I wasn't going to go," Lee said. "I just didn't ask anyone."

"Sorry," John said. "I shouldn't have assumed dates were necessary."

"Not your fault," Lee said, shrugging. "I just didn't realize I had to ask someone."

"I take it you don't have that custom where you're from?" John asked. "It was interesting having to explain what happens at a dance to one of my friends."
