Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of ~~judging~~ watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

"Perhaps next time we'll do something for charity," Blair mused aloud. Mostly because back home charity was an excuse to party. Plus heading up those things looked good on college applications.

"Oh, yeah, I can do that too," he said, nodding. "I've never done anything like that before but...baking pies is the same either way."

Lame. Lamer than lame, there.

Blair was mostly ignoring Ned's chatter. "Maybe for October. Something for the holidays. It'd have to be the right charity though."

"Right, of course," Ned said, content to keep on babbling because it seemed like the thing to do. "October's...orange things, right? Fall? Halloween?"

"There needs to be a masquerade," Blair said. That one was always her favorite. "We'd need to match it with something. What charity sounds related to Halloween?"

Ned wasn't too familiar with charities. Too familiar meant he knew nothing at all about them.

"Um." He wondered if he could make something up. "Sugar...addicts?"

"Diabetes?" Blair mulled that over. "It'd ruin the buffet."

"Well, yeah, that might be bad. Um. Instead of a buffer, go for snack food?" Ned tried. "Or...the finger food stuff?"

"Maybe hunger," Blair said, back on mostly ignoring Ned. "Or children's charities? Though that would involve dealing with children."

"Children aren't so bad," Ned said, trying to keep up since she seemed to think faster out loud than he could at all. "You could always have something for kids that can never go trick or treating for whatever reason."

"We could do it for them," Blair said. "Then ship the bags off to... where ever."

"Exactly," he said, nodding at the suggestion. "All kids like candy. If they can't get candy from wherever they are, getting it from people who can is always super nice."

"I'll have to give it more thought," Blair said, half to herself, half to Ned. Well, mostly to herself.

"Well, if you need anything, let me know," Ned said, nodding. "I can always help."
