Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of ~~judging~~ watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

"An excess of pie isn't something I've ever encountered before," Chuck said. He wasn't going to complain about it though. It looked like good pie.

"I'm thrilled to provide a first for you," Blair replied, drolly.

"You ever want me to repay the favor, all you need to is ask," Chuck said with a leer.

Blair rolled her eyes. This had the benefit of helping her avoid looking at the leer. "Speaking of which, what are you doing in Sex Ed?"

"I'm beginning to think that maybe God put me there to show Mr. Cullen the error of his ways," he said. Because clearly it couldn't have been a paperwork problem.

Blair's mind went into a completely different, and undoubtedly Edward Cullen disapproved, area. Which was why she was now staring at Chuck with her best say what? expression.

Surprisingly, it took a Chuck a second to get why Blair was looking at him like that. "...Blair Waldorf, you dirty, dirty girl. That's not what I meant."

"I wouldn't put it past you!" Blair said. She tried, unsuccessfully, to make the mental images go away. "And some of us are taking that class for the right reasons, Chuck."

"There is no right reason to take that class. It's all bullshit," Chuck said, taking a sip of his drink. "The sooner you realize that, the better off you'll be."

"There is nothing bullshit about wanting to have a special and pure moment with the one you love," Blair said through gritted teeth. "If you understood what we humans call love, you'd know that."

Chuck set his jaw and held back from mentioning how well Nathaniel had been saving himself. "It really is a shame to see someone like you be so naive about the way the world works."

"Some of us live on a higher plane," Blair replied. Not that Chuck was getting under her skin or anything. Blair always took healthy gulps of her martini like that.

"Hm. Well, you and Mr. Cullen enjoy yourselves on that higher plane, scrapbooking or whatever it is people do with their sexless lives," he said.

~~I hear he likes Scrabble~~ "Just let me know if you need tutoring when class assignments come around," Blair told him, with Blair-sweetness.

"Don't worry about me, B. I'm sure I can fake the innocent virgin thing with ease," Chuck said, smiling back at her. He's watched Nate long enough to know how to do it.

"Only for the blind," Blair said. After thought, she added, "And dead."

"I should do well in a class of virgins then," he said. Virgins might as well be dead. "Speaking of virgins, what do you think of the littlest van der Woodsen joining us?"

And just like that the urge to catfight was put aside for scheming. "I was wondering if you'd had a chance to run into him yet. Poor thing. Abandoned by his sister in his hour of need."

Not that Blair had any idea of what made up Eric's hour of need. She just liked the dramatic phrasing of it.

"Can't believe S would do that to her own brother," Chuck said, trying his best to look sympathetic about the whole thing. "Little Eric could use some good friends right about now."

"Friends?" Blair put a hand to her chest as though taken aback. "Nonsense. He's family. After all, he needs someone - or ones - to take care of him now that he's abandoned and alone."

"It really is the right thing to do," Chuck agreed. He was sure that Serena will be absolutely thrilled when she finds out that he and Blair had taken her brother under their oh-so-capable wings.

"S would do the same for us," Blair said. Which she felt was true since she now believed Serena was a back-stabbing bitch. Thiw opinion was only going to go lower once she found out about Serena and Nate.
