The boardwalk, Friday evening

Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of judging watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

Eric took a seat, "Thanks," upon his smiling lips. "... This school is really weird," he added, as a drunk skunk wandered by.

"Yeah, I saw him at the picnic thing," Eric said. He was kind of hard to miss, really. "He's... is he a student?"

It didn't take much effort to consider who that might be; their mother had tried to shelter Eric from it as much as he could, but it was rather difficult to miss Serena when she'd been on a bender. "Yeah," he said, maybe a little bit sad. "Not that that's hard."

He loved his sister, he really did. He just didn't always like her.

"I should introduce myself to him," Eric said, considering. "The unicorn, I mean. It's just... it's weird. This entire place is weird." He smiled again, a little wider than before. "I think I like it."

"I am so glad I convinced Mom to let me come here," he said. Not least because it meant he was away from the UES. And even if he didn't come out here, he was starting to feel like it would be okay if he did. Which was a big change from back home.

Eric wasn't entirely certain about the second half of that, but he definitely couldn't dispute the first part. "Thanks," he said. "It's... I'm glad you two are here."

"I'm good, thanks," Eric said, holding his drink up a little. "But I appreciate it. Everything, I mean."

He couldn't help but think that there was something more to it, at least on Chuck's part, but they were doing what they could to make him feel welcome. He had to appreciate that.
