The boardwalk, Friday evening

Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of judging watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

Eric still wasn't sure if he should avoid Chuck, or try to get into his good graces; still, they were both at the party, so he figured it would probably be pretty obvious if he stayed away from him the whole time.

So, he walked over, soft smile on his face. A quiet, "Hey," escaped his lips.

"Eric," Chuck said, giving him a friendly smile. Or a friendly smirk, rather. He didn't really smile. "How are you on this fine evening? Any of the drunk mammals try to hit on you yet?"

There was a skunk that had been trying to hit on Chuck all evening.

"Oh, are there girl skunks, too?" Eric asked, after just the slightest hesitation. Hardly any at all. Certainly not enough for Chuck to notice, really. "I didn't realise. No, none of them have hit on me."

"I can't really tell the difference between the girls and the guys. I just know one has been winking at me since I've gotten here," he said, wondering a little why Eric was specific about them being guys or girls. It never really mattered to Chuck. "Sadly, you'll get used to stuff like that going on here."

"So people keep telling me," Eric said, with a bit of a sigh. "It's... really, really different," he admitted. "The website didn't list half what the school's actually like."

"I figured as much. My dad would have never sent me here if he knew what it was really like," Chuck said. "It's not all bad, trust me. The girls are pretty easy and there's always someone up for a good time."

"Oh, uh, really?" And here Eric got maybe a little more nervous. "I haven't really been thinking about that. Maybe I'll have to ask around."

When Hell froze over.

"That's what I like to hear," Chuck said proudly. Maybe there was a little Serena in this kid after all. "You meet a chick named Brooke? Totally go for it. She's easy and knows what she's doing."

Eric blushed a bit at that. "I'll, uh, think about it," he said. "I mean, I've never..." He trailed off. Oh, great, he thought. Now Chuck's going to try to hook me up with someone.

Aw, Chuck loved seeing virgins get all nervous. Blair might've been the only one he's seen who didn't get like that when talking about sex.

"Nothing to be ashamed of, Eric," Chuck assured him. "I'm just letting you know your options."

Eric nodded, visibly relieved. "Thanks," he said. "I'll keep that in mind."

And hopefully Chuck wouldn't decide to throw him in a room with a naked woman. 'Make a man out of him' or something.
