Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of ~~judging~~ watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

Sam wasn't sure what he'd been expecting, but it wasn't for the only change to be the feeling of Peter's hand on his arm. "That's it?" he asked. "It's done?"

"Yep," Peter said. An idea occured to him. "Here, watch. When I let go you won't be able to see me. But you will when I touch you again."

Peter moved to take a step back so he could vanish from Sam's sight.

Sam couldn't help but stare a little as Peter vanished. "Okay, now I'm back to creepy," he teased.

"Shaddup," Peter said. He went to put his hand on Sam's arm again so he could reappear to Sam's eyes once they made contact.

Sam smiled once Peter made contact again. "I like being able to see you more," he said. "Not that I don't think invisibility could be really useful sometimes. But I think I like it better when it's both of us."

"The ability to sneak up on you is a plus, but yeah," Peter agreed, keeping his hand where it was. "But you see how it doesn't really feel different?"

"Yeah, I see. Or don't see, however you want to put it," Sam said, keeping himself close to Peter so he wouldn't have to reach too far. "That makes things easier when you're sneaking up on people who should never be me."

"Or you," Peter said, grinning.

"Or not me," Sam replied. "You don't have any reason to sneak up on me."

"I could be trying to surprise you," Peter said.

"I can't think of any situation where that would be a good thing," Sam said.

"Maybe it's your birthday," Peter suggested.

Sam laughed. "Okay, I guess that's one good example. As long as it doesn't involve reappearing and giving me a heart attack."

"That's not the kind of action I had in mind for my healing ability," Peter said. "I have plenty of other things I could do that aren't nearly as fatal."

"You could try something not fatal at all," Sam offered. "That's always an option too."

"You're really starting to limit me, Sam," Peter said, looking woeful.

"Oh yes, I'm so cruel, wanting you to be alive and healthy," Sam deadpanned.

"Seriously," Peter said. "I'm not allowed to disappear on you either. God you're demanding."

"How about this - you can disappear if you make me disappear too?" Sam offered. "Then at least I'll know you haven't vanished for good."

"I suppose," Peter said. "But I want the same thing in return."

"In case you missed the memo, I can't make myself invisible," Sam said.

Peter rolled his eyes. "Other forms of disappearing, jackass."

"Like leaving town?" Sam asked, a little more seriously.

"Like that," Peter said, just as seriously in turn.

"I don't have any plans to do that, unless something goes seriously wrong," Sam assured him.
