The boardwalk, Friday evening

Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of judging watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

"Just not a fan," Turtle said with a shrug. "I don't know, I think it's something about the texture? And just how it gets stuck in your teeth! I hate that! I mean, you get that with popcorn, too, but at least popcorn's tasty."

"I like it as a flavoring," Ned said, nodding at her explanation. "It's not something I'll straight eat because ew. But, popcorn's not my favorite either because I tend to get the packs swimming in butter."

"Mmmm, fake butter flavoring."

The grin on Turtle's face showed that she was actually quite serious about this.

The look of 'ew, gross' on Ned's face showed he wasn't much of a fan. "I can't feel my mouth after I eat a bag of that."

Turtle smirked a little at that. "See," she said, "now this just has me wondering...what are you thoughts on, say....coffee?"

"I like coffee," he said thoughtfully. "I don't drink it too often but it's good for that random energy rush. I'd rather water, though."

Turtle ruefully shook her head. "It's like our taste buds were created to be complete polar opposites of each other," Turtle remarked. She took a moment to eye Ned carefully. "Okay, chocolate. And, so help me, if you say you're allergic..."

Then she would pity Ned like she'd never pitied anyone before, and she dated Jeff here, all right?

"No, I love chocolate!" Ned said immediately. "And all kinds of chocolate. I'd eat it everyday if I didn't know it'd make me sick."

Turtle smirked. "I don't even let that stop me."

"You have a stronger stomach than me," he said, nodding at that impressive feat. "Mine revolts."
