Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of ~~judging~~ watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

"No," Ino made a face. "I figured that one out quite early."

"Aw," Tony said. "I'm going to grab a beer. Want one?"

She grinned. "Get me something with gold in it?"

"I don't think there's anything else!" Tony returned in a couple of minutes with two beers and handed one to Ino. "Are there a lot of color-themed parties around here?" The only gold he was wearing was his eyebrow ring, but since he always wore that, it didn't exactly count.

"Thanks," she said, smiling as she took it. "And, not really? But Blair does like to throw themed parties. We had an ice party the last time--we were in Antarctica and polar bears showed up."

Ino had been totally lazy and just come as normal. Gold wasn't her best colour.

"So when the island took you to Antarctica, you partied with polar bears?" That'd be skepticism, yeah.

"Just like that," she said, totally serious. "It was awesome."

"They weren't dangerous?"

"If you call them offering us soda to be dangerous, then sure," Ino laughed. "Otherwise, not at all."

"Well, if you're diabetic, it could be risky."

"You could easily say no though," she pointed out.

"Wouldn't want to offend a polar bear," Tony said.

"They were cuddly!" she protested. "Adorable and harmless. But less dangerous than the bears with weapons we got one time."

"Bears come with weapons now?" Tony asked. "How is that fair?"

"It was still fun," Ino laughed. "I taught a baby bear how to fight hand to hand."

Yes, that made utterly no sense. That was also what had happened.

"When he comes back to kick my ass, I'm blaming you," Tony grinned.

"It's all part of my plot for world domination," she said solemnly.

This? Was a total lie. There was no plot.

"Sign me up," Tony said. "I'd rather be on the winning side."

She beamed at him. What? It was nice to hear, even if he was just humouring her. "Just for that? You'll get a country or something in the new world order."

Tony grinned. "One of the good ones, I hope. Not one of the tiny ones that're smaller than Toronto?"

"I have no idea where Toronto is," she said brightly. "So that shouldn't be hard to avoid. I can be generous."

"Excellent. I prefer a benevolent dictator."

Ino was certain someone up there was laughing at her ~~like her mun~~. "Well," Ino amended, feeling the need to be honest. "As long as things go my way. Otherwise..."

"All your minions will feel your wrath?" Tony guessed.

Ino put on her most innocent expression. "I neither confirm or deny it."

Yes. Totally yes.
