Summer Dance/Gala Event | Evening | Saturday | June 19

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

"I didn't come with a date tonight." Mostly because he hadn't known how Kate would be feeling today. "Every girl in this room might appreciate it if you did it."

"But I'm rocking the bow here," Jacob snickered. "You're at least going to dance, right?"

"I haven't decided," he said, glancing towards the dance floor. "Are you going to dance? Is that something else you have to prove?"

"No, but I figure if I'm going to dress up, I might as well get some dancing in," he decided. "Besides, it's fun."

"It is," Bod agreed. He'd danced before and had enjoyed it even if he'd been worried about stepping on Kate's toes. "If I can find a willing partner, then I'm sure I'll dance. Will you be dancing with the person that challenged you to wear the tuxedo?"

Jake snorted. "Rosalind? She might be too stuck up to dance," he said, but now that it was said, it sounded like another challenge to meet. "Maybe."

"If I can find someone willing, I'm sure that you can," Bod decided, shaking his head. "Have you made sure Rosalind's attending?"

"No," he frowned. "If she doesn't show, I might just have to do some dragging. I didn't dress up for nothing."

"You should have confirmed she'd be coming before you dressed up," Bod teased, shaking his head. "I'm sure many other people will enjoy your effort though."

Jake snickered. "Nah, now I've got an excuse to annoy her. It's fun," he decided, shaking his head. "I'm going to start thinking you're jealous of my bowtie, dude."

"Not at all," he said and tugged on his town tie. "I've my own and though it's not a bow tie, I think it's rather nice. I even managed to get it done myself without much trouble."

Jacob snickered. "Yeah, don't ask me how long it took to get this one right," he admitted. "At least it's still easier than walking on heels?"

"A fact for which I am very glad," he said, laughing quietly. "I saw someone walking on heels with enough energy to power a boat last night. I don't know how she did it and I respect her all the more for it."

"Yeah? Are you going to parties every night now?" Jacob teased him. "Are you going to start making me wait up for you, worrying that you ended up in a ditch somewhere?"

"It was a party in the dormitories," he said, shaking his head and laughing. "It was Puck's birthday and it was definitely...strange. I left early so you don't have to worry about me staying out too late. That's sweet, Jacob, that you'd wait up for me though. The sign of a very concerned and caring roommate."

"I know, I know," he nodded and tugged at the bowtie again, possibly not as comfortable with it as Bod had guessed. "I'm aiming to win that best roommate award."

"If it helps your confidence levels, I'm rather looking forward to moving back into our room," he said, sighing at that. "I've enjoyed the cabins but I think I prefer our room."

"Tell me about it," Jake agreed. "I don't have to worry keeping you awake the whole night."

"Has that been a problem in your cabin?" he asked. "With so many people surrounding you?"

"They didn't complain much, but Rilla had to wake me up so I've been kind of swapping between sleeping outside and the cabin," he admitted. "It's kind of nice out now that it's warmer anyway." When it wasn't too warm.

"Sleeping outside?" Bod asked, raising an eyebrow. "What do you sleep on? The grass?"

"Something like that," Jacob said, realising that maybe he should start being upfront to his roommate. "I'll explain when we're not in the middle of a party."

"Interesting," Bod said, nodding. "You've me curious now. As long as you don't tell me you're really girl, I'm sure I could handle it."

Jacob rolled his eyes at Bod, almost stuck his tongue out too but that wouldn't do his suit justice. "Yes, my real name is Jacoba. I change only when there's a full moon."

"That's an awful name, Jacoba," Bod said, playing along. "I would hope you'd change it at some point because that is truly awful."
