Summer Dance/Gala Event | Evening | Saturday | June 19

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!

As the manager of a town business, Dimitri had donned the appropriate black tie attire to attend the Gala in support of the new community center. Even if he wasn't intending to stay long, Dimitri thought he could take a few minutes to look around at the building.

"Here to cut a rug?" Alex asked, wandering over to Dimitri when he spotted him towering over everyone else.

"Thanks for the offer, but I think we'd get a few curious looks," Dimitri replied, smiling to help Alex know the kidding was all in good fun.

It took Alex a minute to realize Dimitri had just needled him but he did realize it and he did laugh.

"Yeah, we're a bit of a mismatch," he agreed, snickering still. "Maybe people would be jealous."

Sometimes it was nice to laugh with others and Dimitri joined Alex. "You won't have a hard time finding someone more suited to following your lead. Have you had a look around yet?"

"I have but it's hard not to notice you, man," Alex said, making a show of looking up at Dimitri. "You're a giant. Everyone's eyes would be on us."

"I'm sure it shocks you that I've heard that before," Dimitri replied, looking way down at Alex. It was one less way than usual, though. "Though I am trained to blend in..."

"Yeah, but a party is where you don't blend in unless your a wallflower or some nerd," he decided, nodding. "You really think you could blend in in the middle of a dance?"

Dimitri shrugged, "It's a matter of making your presence so uninteresting that it's like you're not even there. Tonight there's no reason."

"That mean you're actually gonna dance?" Alex asked. "Can a giant like you be light on his feet?"

"I wouldn't be able to judge myself by your standards, but I generally know how to dance," Dimitri informed Alex, amused by how little faith he had in his skills. "It's a lot like fighting."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"See, I can fight --" Though it was not anywhere NEAR Dimitri's standards, " -- but I don't dance very well. I prefer to sit back and watch others dance."

Dimitri was nearly professional at watching. "At my school, we were instructed in both. Which was good, because fights always seemed to follow at the school dances." Not that that would ever happen in Fandom. "You should consider a class."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"...a class on dancing?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow. "I don't know if I'm really the type."

Re: Arrive [Summer Dance 06/19]

[identity profile] guardian-god.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"I would think the type for dance class would be someone who wasn't solid in their dancing," Dimitri suggested.

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-06-19 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but I'm a guy." Alex said that like Dimitri should just know why he didn't think himself the type.

Re: Arrive [Summer Dance 06/19]

Dimitri raised one eyebrow to convey he had noticed this fact. "Clearly."

[identity profile] fratboybitch.livejournal.com 2010-06-20 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Right, maybe Dimitri needed some help with this. "Dancing isn't considered very...masculine."

[identity profile] guardian-god.livejournal.com 2010-06-20 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm aware. And generally thankful I'm not required to participate in dances very often." At least not since his last transfer. Clubs were different.

"So, if that's the case, I think you should dance at this one," he said, still trying to push that. "Make up for lost time and all."

Still strange, this one. "I wasn't planning on staying long enough for that to happen, but I'll consider it."

"Ah, got a hot date with your couch?" he wondered. "Hot date with your computer? This seems to be the only thing happening in town tonight."

[identity profile] guardian-god.livejournal.com 2010-06-20 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
"I've been away for a few days," Dimitri admitted. "So in a way, yes. And I know how these things go the later it gets." How many drunken teens did Dimitri feel like dealing with? Probably none.

"You're sounding like you're some old man who has a bedtime," Alex said, teasing him a bit. "Do you have a bedtime?"

[identity profile] guardian-god.livejournal.com 2010-06-20 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
If Alex worked full time, trained a student, and did opposite hours guard duty he too would have a bedtime.

"In a way. Do I get a pass for not having slept since..." Dimitri did the mental time conversion. "Friday afternoon?"
