Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of ~~judging~~ watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

"Exploding pie," she said smugly. "All over him."

A beat.

"Anemone helped with the baking, but the explosion was my contribution."

Tony laughed. "That's awesome. Did you get pictures? Video?"

"Neither," she said mournfully. "We were hoping he wouldn't guess it was us, so we couldn't stick around."

"Too bad," Tony said. "They'd've been great for the yearbook."

That got a laugh. "It so would've been! I do know, however, that he had to go to the mainland to get his shirt dry-cleaned to get it all out."

"Nice," Tony grinned. "What kind of pie?"

"Mixed berry," she said thoughtfully. "With extra raspberry, I think."

Ino... had not paid a tonne of attention to the baking. Just enough to make sure the exploding tag was going to work.

"That'd make a good stain," Tony said. "Good choice."

"Why thank you for your approval," she teased. "I'd have pined without it."

"Good thing I'm here to save you then," he grinned.

"Good thing indeed," she said. "Me pining is something that should definitely be spared."

"Just doing my bit to make the world better," Tony said.

She rolled her eyes. "Yes, of course you are. The world, sadly, doesn't revolve around me."

"Is this your first time realizing that?" Tony teased.

"No," Ino made a face. "I figured that one out quite early."

"Aw," Tony said. "I'm going to grab a beer. Want one?"

She grinned. "Get me something with gold in it?"

"I don't think there's anything else!" Tony returned in a couple of minutes with two beers and handed one to Ino. "Are there a lot of color-themed parties around here?" The only gold he was wearing was his eyebrow ring, but since he always wore that, it didn't exactly count.

"Thanks," she said, smiling as she took it. "And, not really? But Blair does like to throw themed parties. We had an ice party the last time--we were in Antarctica and polar bears showed up."

Ino had been totally lazy and just come as normal. Gold wasn't her best colour.

"So when the island took you to Antarctica, you partied with polar bears?" That'd be skepticism, yeah.

"Just like that," she said, totally serious. "It was awesome."

"They weren't dangerous?"

"If you call them offering us soda to be dangerous, then sure," Ino laughed. "Otherwise, not at all."

"Well, if you're diabetic, it could be risky."

"You could easily say no though," she pointed out.
