The boardwalk, Friday evening

Blair didn't have ice to work with this time, but she tried to do what she could with the location she had. Luckily the beach was pretty. Besides, too much gold in the decorations tended to cross the line into tacky.

So she kept the decorations to twinkling gold lights and candles. Most of the linens were a crisp white, with golden napkins and table runners to provide pops of color.

The bulk of the gold went into the food. There were brandied apricots, lemon and chocolate cheesecakes, mango sorbets, small cups of saffron vanilla pudding, miniature stuffed yellow peppers, and any number of foods that followed the theme, along with the pies that Ned had made.

Drinks were mixed, but naturally included Goldschläger, as well as coffee and cocoa decorated with tiny gold letters which said things like "Fandom" or "Goodbye Summer."

Blair had staked out a prime table with a view of the water. She sipped at a passionfruit martini, listened to the music coming out of the various speakers she'd had set up, and looked forward to a night of judging watching the crowd.

She was also going to make sure nobody served those skunks. Clearly they didn't know how to hold their liquor.

"I've never had it before," she replied, all innocent like. "But I would guess, that yah, it is."

"It's kind of astonishing," Cal commented, wondering if he sounded preachy, which isn't what he intended. He was just...a little surprised to see Amber drinking like that. Wasn't she always talking about how she hated her mom drinking all the time? Or was that smoking? And hadn't she tried to do smoking before, too?

Damn it, now Cal wanted a cigarette; he shook his head and continued. "How much alcohol is available to the underage student population around here..."

Oh yah, she's been doing it all lately. Well, she did give up smoking for good. It's nasty.

"As much as they want I guess," she said with a light shrug. "It's just a party, Cal. People drink at parties."

"I know," Cal shrugged his shoulder. "Can't see why. Most of that stuff tastes so gross, anyway."

"Not after a couple drinks," she thought to point out. "Come on, let's have fun, uh?"

Cal smirked a little at that. "I don't know how much credit I'd give something that takes more of it to start making it enjoyable," he commented, but then gave her a soft grin. "And standing around is my version of fun at a party, so what do you want to do to have fun?"

Amber stared at him. "You could pretend, at least, that you liked me a little and wanted to please me, on this... our very first date."

"I don't have to pretend, Amber," Cal informed her, meeting her stare with a sarcastic little expression. "What do you want to do? Name it. Anything short of dancing, although, maybe, if a good song comes on...but that's pushing it, you know. Breaking two Cal Rules in one night. World might explode."

She laughed and stepped in close, totally invading that personal space of his. "Who cares about the song? If it's slow, you barely have to move but to hold onto me."

"Maybe one," Cal said, holding up a finger in a way that almost kept at least his arm between them; it centered in between his eyes, which looked over into hers, and he tilted the finger to touch her nose with it. "As your date, I guess I owe you at least one. So you might want to save it for a good one."

"I'm going to have to write this down later. Cal breaks two rules in one night," she teased, though understood that he was keeping his distance from her.

"Mark it on the calender," he said, smirking with the light tone in his voice; again, his body, for the second time that night, doing something contrary to his mind. As if it knew the intentions in his head, strong and licentious, it made sure it kept his arm there, the finger erect between them, a barrier against what he thought.

That finger was starting to get on her nerves. With her eyes on his she leaned up and forward, licking it.

For a fleeting second, Cal thought that maybe his body had forgotten how to breath, but it wedged out of him in a hitched breath. "That's not fair," he muttered quickly, quietly, riding along the gasp, and then swallowing it down.

"Of course it is," she told him, enjoying the effect that lick had had. Dare she try it again? Leaning forward, she repeated the intimate little gesture.

Any efforts to keep that hitching from happening again took the form of deep, carefully drawn breaths and Cal lightly shook his head. He still hadn't moved his hand, however, and his finger curled slightly under the attention of her tongue. His knees grew a little weak thinking of what other things she could do with it, but, of course, that thought also went and turned his stomach because no one would...ever...

His tongue, though. He could do an awful lot with his own. It made a brief appearance against his lip, wetting it, dry as a desert. "And you're doing that on purpose."

"Mhm," she murmured and reached up to hold his hand so she could lick again, this time with a little nibble to the tip of his finger. "I'm feeling dangerous."

"If I agree to two dances," Cal said, "will you quit doing that?"

Notice, though, that he didn't bother even trying to move his hand away. In fact, he felt it turning toward her, as if giving her access to more than just his fingers, to his palm as well, if she wanted, watching every small movement of her lips. This was, admittedly, something entirely different for Cal, even in just the sort of devotion that she was giving to him, his hand, just to...

"If I'd known you'd be like this," he added quietly, "I'd have just stayed in your room..."

She didn't answer his question. He was offering her his hand so she took it, and stepping in, her eyes on his, she lowered her lips to his palm, kissing there, letting the tip of her tongue move around in tiny circles then dragging it back up his finger, taking it in her mouth where she suckled gently.

"I'm mysterious like that," she replied softly, kissing his palm once more.

"Y...you know," Cal said, once he was able to get a hold of his breath and make it do something other than catch in his chest and make his jaw hang slightly open. "There's probably some...more...private places we could do this..."

Re: Eat and/or drink!

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm sure," she told him, kissing once more before she let his hand go. "But not here. Definitely not here."

Cal's head was absolutely swimming and he wanted to just ask where, where, for the love of God, where, but instead, what came out was a much quieter, faintly dazed, "And I guess," he laughed a little, almost dizzily, "that if we're going to a party, we should at least, you know, stay there for a...bit."

Re: Eat and/or drink!

[identity profile] minnesota-teen.livejournal.com 2008-09-06 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably," she agreed, though faintly. She'd be all up for leaving right now because his mouth looked very inviting.

"...and there's the mystery and all that, right? Something to look forward to."

"I don't know," Cal said, looking at her steadily. "What if I'm already losing interest?"

"Oh, then just let me know," she said. "And I'll go and try and find my golden panties."
