April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

As Arthur approached the punch bowl, he kept an eye out for Reno. If anyone was going to spike this punch to the point where it was worth drinking, it would be him.

Encountering only unspiked punch, he sighed, and began to load meat onto his plate.

"I work for the school, now," Reno informed Arthur as he stepped up to him, making a bit of a sour face as he looked at the punch bowl. "So I can pretend not to see other people spikin' it, but I don't know if I'd be able to keep my job if I went an' did it myself, yo."

This was Reno, nodding toward the punch bowl while ever-so-subtly holding a flask of Everlear out to Arthur, somewhere at waist-height.

"Oh, certainly," Arthur said, subtly taking that subtle flask. "Give the man a jot of responsibility, and suddenly he chooses to lord it over the rest of us..."

"Went straight to my head," the Turk replied, looking about as solemn as Reno could possibly manage.

Which wasn't very, at a dance like this.

"It ain't all that bad, is it? I mean, it ain't like I'm gonna go around tossin' people into detention or nothin', yo. That'd be like pretendin' I wasn't half as bad."

"You streaked across your graduation, if I recall correctly," Arthur said. He was a lot subtler when he was actually slipping some of the everclear in.

His own responsibility complex only allowed for so much. ...And a tiny bit more.

In all fairness, he hadn't really been listening. Hearing people complain would have been a blow to his ego, okay?

"Besides, them days are behind me, yo. Now it's all... gossip at the water cooler, and sittin' in my office, an' junk."

Well. He sat in his office when he remembered to, anyhow. About once every few months, whether he needed to or not.

Arthur snorted, and took a small cup of punch while he was at it. "I find that very hard to believe. If I ask around, am I going to hear any different?"

"That," Reno mused, reaching for a cup and helping himself to some punch, as well, "depends on who you ask, and how much I bribed 'em to say nice shit about me."

"Still as much an idiot as ever, then," Arthur surmised, sipping from his cup. Carefully. He pulled a contemplative face as he tried to figure out whether the alcohol content was just right. It seemed to pass. "It's good to know some things rarely change."

"They'll just let anyone into these bloody balls these days, won't they?" Mat said teasingly as he approached. "Even Arthur Pendragon."

Arthur grabbed his hand and patted him on the shoulder at the same time. "Well enough," he blustered, "And quite content without scruffy fools needing me to rescue them all the time."

"Alive, and avoiding the punch bowl," Arthur said, being a good sport and not developing a twitch just because Mat chose to ask after him. "I don't think he's tried hiding yet, but if you see a large potted plant moving about, that's about his level of cunning..."

No, they didn't. Merlin pouted and bitched a lot when he brought it up.

Which was hilarious, right up until the lad started threatening to cut certain parties off.

Glomping Arthur would have the opposite effect it would have on Priestly. So there was just wandering into Arthur's line of vision, and grinning. "So, you won't stop me if I climb up the hotel tonight, right?"

Now there was a reason to veer away from that plan if ever there was one. The concept blipped into Dinah's consciousness for half a second before her brain made it go away out of self-preservation.

"So, it's okay to do it tomorrow?" Dinah grinned. Totally not meaning it now. Because aieee. "It's not even as dangerous as trainsurfing. Seriously."

"Safety harness?" Of course that was agreement. Not said like this was a new word that must be explored. "Of course, safety harness. Right. We use them all the time in the climbing club."

Because there were other people there, and they were fragile.

It was sad that she had to stop and think about it, for at least a minute, wasn't it?

"...nothing!" Wow, huge surprise there. "'Cause bruising doesn't count." Some of which was visible on her arms, yes. Nicely purple elbows from landing on the train roof about ten times. She grinned. "You? Any new hedgehog related injuries?"

Arthur gave her arms a distinctly unimpressed - and maybe slightly worried, but he wasn't going to admit it - look. "Hedgehog?" he asked, instead. "The only way you could harm anyone with a hedgehog would be flinging one at someone's face."

It was probably scary that was the first thing he thought about.
