Anything But White Party - Stark Industries, Friday Night

The ballroom was once again set up for guests at Stark Industries, this time with a decidedly colorful theme for it. Where the color white could reasonably be avoided it was avoided: from the decorations to the lighting, to the food and drinks provided for the guests.

Because no one enjoyed a nice theme more than Tony Stark.

Steve strode across the ballroom and stared up at the new Chihuly chandelier installed over the dance floor. "When I suggested we switch out the art, I meant the kids' paintings," he said, pointing to the new, very colorful, pictures that had been blown up from construction paper size to 5 foot tall show-stoppers. "I still think the pictures of Princess Thor riding on the unicorn wins, though."

When given a prompt like anything but white, Irene had been tempted to pull out something black or otherwise neutral from her closet, just to be contrary.

But of course she'd instead adhered obediently to the theme, turning up this evening in a totally understated and subtle lamé Gucci gown. A pair of silver spikes and a thorny hair piece pinning her hair over one shoulder completed the look (and if you liked that jewelry, Irene would be more than happy to direct any inquiries and compliments to the designer herself.)

"I could have sworn that was a different chandelier last time," she mused upon entrance, genuinely unsure whether she'd just had a bit too much champagne last time and was mistaken, or whether it had changed over the summer.

Nell was here with her first ever fancy dress minus the head covering. She was a bit nervous, but excitement might just be winning out over nerves.

She just stood for a moment as she came in, staring at the vastness of the room, the chandelier, the art. It was beautiful, if a little overwhelming.

Amaya definitely had moved a step or two up from having just the one fancy dress that looked more suited for a Ren Faire than it did a swanky party such as this one, although her reasoning for going for a brown gown that evening was very much as charmingly rustic as expected (anything but white? She was familiar with that; good luck thinking a white could stay white in a forge for too long, everything just sort of turned out...well, brown!).

And, of course, she'd accessorized, with a delicate necklace, especially for her, that she'd hammered out that week (how many people could say they were waltzing in with their own handmade jewelry?) and a hair piece (only in gold) that was really trying its best to keep a bit of a side-sweep of her hair in place. It would certainly be a brave battle fought throughout the evening, really.

Kitty absolutely repurposed a previous year's blue New Year's Eve dress, and studying the chandelier. Because how could you not?

Even though she lived here, she would never get over how massive the ballroom was when it was, you know, actually being used as a ballroom.

Stark had worn his dark mask to go with his new blue suit. He hoped that would meet the approval of his stylist.

He'd arrived alone. The bartender had, of course, had to arrive earlier to set up. That was fine. It gave him the opportunity to look around the ballroom and admire it all before his attention would be focused elsewhere.

Ignis was never one to use the fact that he couldn't see what he was wearing to prevent himself from wearing something fantastic. In addition to an appreciation for a theme that would otherwise mean very little to him, it just meant making sure the fabrics were also particularly luxuriant, and he was there with confidence, even with an accessory that not only matched but would likely be extremely functional, and he was going to try to not be too wistful about the veritable rainbow of fine colors and outfits that would be out tonight that he would, sadly, be missing out on enjoying fully.

Rey was like 50/50 on parties, but this was her boss, and she felt she should show. At least a lot the black she had was for various events here so she only felt a tiny bit underdressed.

Of course Steven had a rather smart looking white suit, but for a multitude of reasons he wasn't wearing it tonight as he arrived with Llewellyn. Instead he wore a grey suit and blue shirt with the tie and pocket square that Llewellyn had given him.

As it was also the start of the holiday, Steven had brought a small bundle to give to their hosts, or perhaps leave on an appropriate table meant for any such things.

Being as he was from the Edwardian time period, rich folk having a place with a ballroom was not, strictly speaking, boggle worthy. But anyway. Watts was here, and dressed in his best suit. He'd even managed to find a shirt that was more of a cream than a white, which he hoped counted for the purposes of this party.

Gonzo did not walk any carpet. He was, somehow, not wearing bright colors, either. He was in a black catsuit (complete with ears), and entered by dropping down from the ceiling in a Mission Impossible style climbing rig.

What? Beaker had made it sound like they needed to break in! Gonzo was nothing if not committed to a bit.

After rather a lot of dithering and overthinking, Travis had finally managed to pick out something to wear to this party that, miracle of miracles, wasn't grey or brown.

It was blue. It was very likely he didn't own clothing in any other color.

A chance to dress up and wear the suit that Lester had so graciously (aka unknowingly) bought him, so Connor was there. Trying to not look too awkward and out of place. It was a big step for him ok? He so wasn't used to glitz and glamour and all that, but he did think the suit looked rather nice ... for him.

Gladio was in nice, neat, simple black that evening and pretty much anchored to Nell's side for the entirety of it, however long that was going to be until she felt like she was getting a little overwhelmed, or, much less likely, in his humble opinion, just decided to tell him to take a hike. But he'd definitely be nodding and bro-chin-lifting and waving on occasion to the familiar faces milling about.

Dwight was there too, and look at that, in a new suit and everything ! Maybe there was hope for him yet, though there was still the all-too-familiar awkwardness that went along with Dwight and social events and gatherings. It was a process. He was trying!

Eliot was dressed practically casually (for him), while still absolutely sticking to the spirit of the occasion, in his green suit with a golden waistcoat and bright orange paisley tie.

He surveyed the party as he entered, scanning the crowd with a critical eye.

"Finally," he said. "A social occasion with some class that Bambi and I didn't have to throw ourselves."

Liliana had...maybe?...met Tony and/or Steve, but she saw no reason to let that stop her from showing up at a fancy party where the theme, as far as she could tell, was 'see and be seen.'

And Liliana was always happy to be seen. A surprise find at the dress shop yesterday had her ditching her previous plans of showing up in black in favor of her signature purple, with gold accents framing her face from her angelic headdress, as well as dangling from her ears and encircling her throat and wrists. Her hip felt empty without the slight weight of the Chain Veil against it, but it was a party.

Cutter’s suit had also been unknowingly and generously provided by Lester, he was trying to be better about being social, even though he was still looking rather awkward about being in large gatherings.

Steve was hungry after greeting the arrivals and the very nice part about throwing the party meant that the servings were intended for super-soldiers and not just tiny finger foods that left him hungry.

So he was eating a rainbow from his plate and enjoying watching others enjoying themselves.

Ah, yes, the lovely Ms. Smith was thrilled to reprise her role as everyone's favorite bartender for the evening, no doubt defying expectation by being dressed in a color other than pink (and, obviously, not white, either), with a hit list of cocktails and jello shots. The latter were displayed on colorfully lit tiered stands like cupcakes, with little placards to denote which one were which and to be plucked up at the guests' discretion, though the cocktails themselves would take a little doing, but there was also a good variety of beers (especially red ales and Blue Moons) and some liquor and wine (but sorry wine snobs, no whites tonight!).

In as much of a queer indie way as possible, obviously. That's what you get for giving her free rein, Tony.

Steph had a rainbow tie-dye blazer on over a gray button-down, dark blue slacks, and even if her socks weren't visible they were in the lesbian flag colors.

Also, she had a color-changing light-up d20 on a necklace chain, and she was happily grooving along with the music at her DJ station.
