Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

He took it gladly, smiling at her. "Show me how it's done," he said.

River raised an eyebrow. "Dancing wasn't part of Jedi training?" she asked.

"Oh, it was," Anakin said, spinning her, "but it was very formalized. You seem a little more...freeform. I didn't want to get in your way."

"Lead then? Am good at following if you let me listen." And there was still plenty of opportunity to improvise, usually. She spun around, letting her arm express details in the music.
sith_happened: (Anakin: best at what he does)

Anakin smiled again, then led her through a modified version of an old Alderaanian dance. "I spent a lot of time at receptions," he said, "and even more time with a lightsaber."

He feet were quick and sure.

River followed, and it didn't take her long to get a grasp of the dance, and she took the freedom to elaborate a little, here and there. "So similar, dancing and fighting."

"It's about knowing where your feet are," Anakin agreed, letting River share in his enjoyment of the dance.

Feet on the ground and sometimes in the air. River spun around on one foot, laughing, clearly enjoying this too.

Anakin laughed. "Well, Skywalker," he said, captivated by River's joy.

"Who gave you the name? Ever walked on air?" River laughed again.

"Sort of?" Anakin said, spinning River out. "I used to love jumping from buildings. Drove my teacher crazy."

River tipped her head back, looking up at the ceiling for a moment, then back at Anakin. "Most people don't survie jumping from buildings," she pointed out, retracing the steps pf the spin.

Anakin grinned. "I can slow my descent," he said. "I still prefer a ship, though. That's not really flying--it's controlled falling."

"Still, earned your name." River couldn't help thinking that she would have jumped from buildings too if she could, and would have driven Simon crazy by doing it.
sith_happened: (Anakin: flying is fun!)

Anakin grinned, then flashed River a memory: him eight years old, scruffy and dirt-smudged, being told by an old spacer "Kid, you were named right. You fly like you own the sky."

River laughed a happy laugh; at the shared memory, at the dancing and at a feeling of being understood without having to make an effort.
sith_happened: (Anakin: forehead kiss)

Anakin pulled her in close as the dance came to an end and impulsively dropped a kiss on her forehead.

You make the universe a brighter place, he thought at her, eyes sparkling.

River looked up at him, smiling, but she suddenly felt tears in her eyes. Not from sadness; it moved her that someone other than her brother would see her that way. She reached up and gave him a quick hug.

Anakin hung on for a brief moment before pulling back. "Go have fun with the non-cranky people," he said with a smile.

River chuckled, took a step away and disappeared into the crowd.
