Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor. 

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

"Oh, well, too many pretty people, too few hours in the day." He chuckled. "Although, in all honesty? I'm just enjoying being at the school itself. And the... diverse classes are always fun."

Veronica had a feeling that this guy flirted with anything in a skirt. And quite possibly anything in pants. But that didn't mean she wasn't going to enjoy it. "Yeah, the classes here are vastly different from anywhere else," she agreed. "Where are you from?"

Say 'anyone' and you might be on to something.

"Ireland, originally," he replied. "County Wicklow. Beautiful country, that; lots of history, too. And you?"

Well that accounted for the sexy accent. "I'm from California," Veronica said. "A little town called Neptune. It's near San Diego."

Ronan nodded. "I don't believe I'm familiar with it," he said. "Although perhaps that might have to change, if you're any indication of the quality of the natives."

Veronica smiled. "There are a few folks from my town here," she said. "Mac and Dick."

She didn't know about Meg yet.

"... I think I may have met Dick?" Ronan said. "Although I'm not sure. ... And maybe Mac, actually." He shrugged. "And here I'm supposed to have this fantastic memory." Chuckling, Ronan shrugged again. "At any rate, if I have met them, I don't properly remember, and if I've heard of Neptune, I don't remember at all, so let's pretend that I know nothing about it at all."

"It's a beach town," Veronica said. "Close enough to Hollywood that it attracts some pretty high-powered people."

"Yeah?" Ronan frowned. "Sounds like it must be an... interesting town, then."

You might think, given his reaction, that he doesn't have the highest opinion of Hollywood type people.

Oddly enough, Veronica shared that opinion. "It has it's moments," she said.

Ronan laughed, just slightly. "Most places do. Does Neptune have enough of them to make it worthwhile?"

It took Veronica a moment to decide how to answer that. "On the whole? Yeah, I think it does. Though not as many as this place has."

"I don't think there's anywhere that has quite so many moments as Fandom," Ronan said, grinning. "There's not really anywhere else I'd rather be. Not at the moment, at least." He paused. "Although the moon is nice this time of year."

That sounded like a line. But Veronica didn't really care. "Really? I don't know if I ever paid that much attention."

Ronan shrugged. "I didn't start going until last summer, but it's a good place to go if you need to get away from people for a while." He paused. "And have a way to get there."

You would think after more than two years in or around Fandom, nothing would shock Veronica.

You would be wrong. She gaped at him a little.

"... What?" he asked. "Oh, the going to the moon thing? I'm a wizard. I've been off-world a couple times now because of it."

Ronan shrugged a little. "It's one of the perks," he said. "Swear to keep the universe safe, see the universe in the process."

"My best friend is a witch," Veronica said. "She and her sisters have that whole destiny thing too."

Ronan nodded. "So... yeah. Kinda like that." He grinned. "I have to say, though, nothing beats becoming friends with a walking Christmas tree."

Veronica laughed. "Okay, yeah, that would be hard to beat. Well, at least as long as the tree wasn't walking off with my presents."

"Well, he's not actually Christmas tree," Ronan said, feeling a bit like he'd had this conversation before. "He's just a member of a species that evolved from coniferous trees. He was on Earth as part of a wizarding exchange program."

"Ah, okay, that's different then," Veronica said. "And at least he wouldn't have to worry about tripping over tinsel."
