Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

"Not entirely," A.J. said with a grin, and perhaps the slightest bit of a bounce; how amazing was it to have a date actually asking him to babble about art before they've barely just even entered the door? "He used mostly tones of blue and blue greens, to sort of...encapsulize the somber nature of the pieces. So it wasn't just about the color, but there was also sort of the blue feeling of the work, too. They're very sad sort of painting, but amazing, especially the ones where he'd warmed them up with just, like, one or two other colors, and..."

He trailed off a little. "And I need to just get you to a museum one of these days. Maybe on that capitol trip."

A.J. was going to learn eventually that Beauty would happily listen to all the babbling about art he wanted to indulge in. It was a topic she knew nothing about, and was now curious about, and it would probably be a competition to see which of them got tired of her questions sooner.

"Oh, that makes more sense. And it sounds really interesting when you explain it like that, about the way the color sets a mood. I'm mostly used to classical art and portraiture, I don't really know much about art that's more about...feeling than about representing the way something looks." She grinned brightly at the suggestion of a museum. "Oh, I'd like that! Do you think there'd be time?"

"Modern art is really going to blow your mind," A.J. said, pretty excitedly, because he was hoping to definitely be the one to do that. "And we'll make time, dammit."

Normally Beauty was not the hugging and squeeing type. She wasn't. And she'd have had words for anyone who suggested she was.

But the entire progression of events over the course of the week, and especially today, had her feeling a little unlike herself. Which was why she threw her arms around A.J.'s neck and hugged him. Without the squeeing.

That was the excuse she was going to use later, anyway.

Grinning, A.J. wrapped his arms around Beauty's waist to hug her back, lowering his head a bit against her because it was just so damn cute. "So," he said. "Should we go get a picture done?"

Beauty might have hung on just a tiny bit longer after A.J. put his arms around her waist. Then at his question, she pulled away and grinned up at him.

"Oh yes, please! Andrew told me he was going to bring a camera, for making pictures. Do you have one too? I want to send one to my sisters, although I wish I could be there to see the look of shock on their faces when they get it."

A.J. kept an arm lingering near the small of her back, partly to sort of start guiding her toward where the cameras were set up with the backdrops and partly because it was just nice being close to her. "Yeah, they've got a whole set up over there," he said, nodding her attention in the right direction. "Looks like we just pick a backgrond and they'll snap a shot of us....Definitely need to get a picture to send to my friends, too. Make 'em all jealous."

There wasn't anything Beauty could think of to say in response to A.J. suggesting people might be jealous of him because of her, and so instead she just smiled up at him and hoped he understood how happy it made her feel. Then she turned her attention to the arrangement of backdrops, taking her time to look at each before she pointed out her choice (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/2130468.html?thread=95025700#t95025700).
