Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

Ronan came to the dance floor, clearly with a dance partner in mind.

Neatly sliding his white gloves onto his hands -hey, old fashion here!- Neil was less than a step behind Ronan as they headed out onto the floor.

Ronan raised his eyebrow slightly at the gloves, but grinned; they were a nice touch. "Would you like to lead," he asked, "or shall I?"

He wouldn't feel right at a formal dance without them, he was just glad they worked well with the more modern tux.

"I'm flexible," Neil said agreeably. "Do you have a preference?"

Ronan shook his head. "No, I'm rather versatile," he said. And then mentally headdesked when he realised how what he'd said could be taken. (Not that that interpretation was any less true.) "Shall we start one way, then trade off?"

Neil had been in Fandom long enough that he blushed only a little bit at that and cleared his throat politely.

"Sounds like a plan," he agreed, eyes full of high spirits as he held his hand out to Ronan, offering to take the first lead, least they waste the whole song going back and forth on whom was going to be first.

Ronan grinned, gladly following; it wasn't the position with which he'd had the most experience, but he was certainly capable of taking direction.

Lead was a position that had always come naturally to Neil, not something he always comfortably sought out but when it came to dancing, well ... that was all about the pleasure of the motion, wasn't it?

Adopting a classic frame to start, Neil didn't break out anything too fancy or overbearing, simply showing a confident grace in the movements and a warm smile of pleasure to be dancing.

Following where he was lead, Ronan actually found some comfort in the classic frame; it was rather different than his usual style, but it seemed appropriate with Neil. He returned the warm smile. "This is nice," he said.

Neil had figured out -since he worked at a dance club- that you could add some more modern moves onto the classic style, so he was having a bit of fun with it, rather than locking them into a traditional waltz.

"I'll take that as a good sign that I'm not making an utter fool out of myself," Neil said playfully.

Ronan grinned. "Not at all," he said. "You seem to be quite a competent dancer." Not that Ronan was making a bad showing, himself, as after a minor initial stumble he caught on to what Neil was throwing into the dance.

"Eh, this is the formal stuff, it can be more fun to dance of the roof," Neil grinned as he added a couple quick turns and a spin into the mix.

"Not that I'm not having fun," he quickly added, laughing softly. "Did I catch that in time or are you now hopelessly offended?"

"Not offended at all," he said, grinning. "And I happen to agree with you about the formal versus roof dancing."

He indicated that he wanted to take the lead, hoping that Neil would pick up on it, and then tried to send him into a spin that was decidedly un-waltz-like.

Re: Third Set

[identity profile] iftheseshadows.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Neil liked dancing and he loved improv so as soon as he was certain of what Ronan wanted, he did a quick double step to catch up and go into that fun spin.

It made him laugh and he playfully struck a pose at one point, hints of the natural born actor coming through.

"Even when being unformal at a formal, there's still formality, vs a roof." He agreed, eyes on Ronan's face to help him read the other boy's next lead.

Ronan grinned, leading Neil into a sequence of steps that were half-waltz, half-jive. "True," he said. "Roof is good for freeform. But this, I think, is still a lot of fun."

Re: Third Set

[identity profile] iftheseshadows.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The jive was a nice touch and definitely got Neil to grin as he matched steps.

"While I agree with you, Ronan, I think we should still totally have the winter roof party so we can compare and make certain," he said with a conspiratorial wink.

"All I'm saying," A.J. said as he met Ronan on the dance floor, "is that all that glitter better stay on your suit."

Ronan raised his eyebrow. "Not to worry," he said. "It's not glitter I added, it's actually the tuxedo itself that's glittery. Individual molecules are reflecting light differently, that's all."

"Good to know," A.J. smirked. "Well?" With a bit of mock ponp, his hand went out to Ronan. "Shall we?"

Ronan nodded, grinning. "Indeed! Would you like to lead?" he asked, as he took A.J.'s hand.

Re: Third Set

[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I could," A.J. said, "but I am cused to leading, so a change of pace might be nice."

Not that A.J. had a lot of experience with dancing that involved leading beyond roof parties, and, believe it, with Mark? You definitely wanted to lead. But A.J. had a feeling he wouldn't have ot worry about the same things you have to worry about with Mark with Ronan.

Ronan nodded, and took them into a kind of easy step, spinning them around the floor. "This work?" he asked.

"This works," A.J. decided, moving easily with Ronan. It was interesting, really, how he could trip on his own two feet walking down a hall, but dancing was a cinch for him. "You're pretty good at this."

"Thanks." Ronan suddenly lead them between two other couples, deftly sending them across the floor. "You're not so bad yourself."

Andrew wasn't nearly nervous dancing with Ronan this time as he had been on the roof. There had been practice.

"You have to lead," Andrew stated. "I never have."
