Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

"No. That's not fair. It wasn't you... it was me and my ego, and my unwillingness to accept feelings and changes." He met his eyes. "It wasn't you."

That? Really rather surprised Ronan. It wasn't exactly the first thing he'd expected Johnny to admit.

"... Well. I didn't help, exactly," he said. "It's not like I went out of my way to spend time with you, really. We... I think we can pretty well say we were both at fault."

Johnny would agree to that, even though he did think he was more at fault. "Not enough time... we should have made time, Ronan."

"Yeah, we should have." He shrugged a bit. "But it's too late now, really... isn't it?"

It was, wasn't it?

... Wasn't it?"

"It is late..." Johnny said, his lips near to Ronan's ear. "Savannah and I...we're happy." Except for that one fight earlier in the week...

"Yeah," Ronan said, wondering if he should pull away, but not entirely certain that he could. "Too late for us. You're with Savannah. You're happy."

Right?

"Right?"

"Yeah," Johnny whispered, moving his hands further around Ronan's hips.

It wasn't hard to tell that Johnny might feel a tinge of excitement, dancing with Ronan.

Nor should it be hard to tell, as his arms tightened a little, moving further around Johnny's neck, that he was just as happy to be here, dancing with Johnny.

But there wasn't anything between them anymore. Of course there wasn't.

Which is why Ronan finally pulled away, slipping out of Johnny's embrace. "I... I can't," he said, finally. "Not this. Not while you're with Savannah. If you... you can't have it both ways." He took a deep breath. "One or the other of us, Johnny."

Johnny sighed; let his arms drop to his sides as he considered Ronan with a thoughtful wrinkle of his brow. "It's just a dance," he said low, knowing that no, it wasn't just a dance, but lying to himself and Ronan made it sound more appropriate in his mind.

He was silent for a long moment, bowing his head as he looked down at his shoes. Odd that he thought he could almost see his reflection in them.

"...and it's one or the other, isn't it? Not both. Never both..." he whispered finally, seemingly confused.

Ronan shrugged, just slightly, as he shook his head a bit sadly. "I wish it could be otherwise," he said. "If... If you really want to try it -- if you really want it to be both... I could try. But you need to talk to Savannah about it first. I won't... not unless she knows."

"I wouldn't either, Ronan," he said. "I'm not like that... I... maybe I will talk to her..."

Ronan nodded, slowly. "If... well. Whatever happens." Because he could see that conversation going either very well, or very badly. "Whatever happens, you know where I live."

He smiled, softly and a bit sadly, as he stepped further away. "Thanks for the dance, Johnny."

Johnny did not want him to walk off like that. Not with that look on his face, the smile tinged with regret, maybe sorrow... "Ronan," he whispered, taking a step towards him before he halted and shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"Thanks...for the dance." Then he turned abruptly on his heel and walked away.
