Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

"You're not bad at this," Jaina told him, feeling pretty comfortable.

"I'm glad I'm not stepping on your toes too much," he said.

"You know, I talked to Prof. Skywalker after class yesterday." John wanted to make sure she was okay with things but wasn't exactly good at being direct.

Given the class, that did worry her a little. "I told him to lay off," she said.

He looked down at her and wondered if they were talking about two different things. "Oh?"

"Yeah," she said, because they were. "I asked him to just make an effort. He wasn't horrible, was he?"

"That might depend on your definition of horrible," John replied, getting that they were on different pages. "He told me some of the story of that scene we were in."

"Uh huh," she said, figuring out where this was going. "Which part?"

"The part about the tasteless wall art," John said.

"Yeah. He looks different now than he did on the wall, I promise," Jaina said. "More talkative, too."

He looked at her seriously for a moment. "So you're...okay with seeing that?" He had to make sure.
solo_sword: (quiet)

"No," she admitted. "I know it was just a simulated version of a real scenario. Okay, fine. Not so pleased with my dad ending up on the wall in class. But I'll deal with it."

John nodded. "In any case, I'm around if you need, you know, help with anything."

"Thanks," she said, rubbing his back a little in appreciation. "Sorry I didn't say anything. It would have been just a weird sort of introduction."

"I'm sorry if I argued with your grandfather about it," John smiled. "I think I'm growing on him."
solo_sword: (really?)

Jaina was half-impressed and half worried for his trachea. "You argued with him over it?" she asked.

"Well, I asked specific questions and called him on not having good answers, but I think it went well overall," he explained quickly. He didn't know he should fear for his trachea.

She really wished she could tell him. And she wasn't sure what to do with the fact that she kind of wanted to. "You're brave," she said with a little smile.

He traced small circles in her back with his hand. "I'm not brave."

She could argue that. "Well, whatever you are, I like it," she told him honestly.

A sneaking grin attempted to spread across his face. He resisted the best he could. "This dance would be very uncomfortable if you didn't. And thanks."

"You don't have to thank me for that," she smiled back, settling against him a little more.

"I don't have to, but I like to," he replied, leaning his head down to rest on hers.
