Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

"We'll just have to see," A.J. said with a grin. "I think I can be okay with you stomping on my feet if that's the result...I could probably return the favor, too, maybe..."

Okay, that had her blushing even more, and what that all about anyway? It was just a foot rub, she'd given them to her sister and her father, and even Ger now and then, and it had never seemed like the kind of thing to go and get all shy over before.

For some reason, though, she had it in her head now that it was a really sweet thing for A.J. to offer to return the favor. There were times when Beauty really wished she had her sisters around.

"That would be nice," she said softly. "These shoes are a little uncomfortable for things you're supposed to wear dancing. Annette was pretty insistent that I couldn't wear my boots with this dress, though."

"Like...riding boots?" A.J. asked, realizing he'd wished he paid more attention to Beauty's usual footwear so he wouldn't have to ask.

"Sort of riding-work boots," Beauty replied, nodding. "Nothing special, and they're pretty scruffy by now. But they're comfortable."

They were also the only shoes she owned at the moment, other than the ones she'd bought for the dance, but she felt weird about mentioning that. "You'd definitely feel it if I stomped on your feet in those," she added, with a grin.

A.J. laughed at the comment. "Yeah, probably," he agreed. "But you know what? They would have looked awesome with that dress."

Somewhere in the back of his mind, a little imaginary Cher was stabbing him with a Gucci heel for that comment. But he felt no greater truth could be spoken.

Beauty laughed, flinging her head back a little, both at the image in her head and the fact that A.J. said it with such sincerity. "A.J., I think absolutely anything would look awesome with this dress."

Heck, it had managed to transform her, hadn't it? It was just that awesome a dress, Beauty thought.

"Well, it is a nice dress," A.J. said; he seemed a bit nervously hesitant to continue, but he forged ahead anyway, "but I think it has more to do with the person wearing it than the dress itself."

Beauty's face shone in a smile, and for once she didn't protest against the compliment. The longer she knew A.J., the more she realized that he wasn't the type to give a girl a pretty line just because he thought it would benefit himself. So if he said, he meant it, and that thought made Beauty feel warm inside.

"I think this is the first time in my life I've really felt like I deserved that," she said softly. "Thank you for that, A.J."
