The Beach, Friday Evening

The weather was still a little cloudy in the evening, but it was warm enough that hopefully people would still feel like partying. There was certainly enough food for a party, along with cool drinks and equipment for beach games like beach volleyball. Or beach dodgeball. Or beach something-else-with-balls because the residents and alumni of Fandom tended to be a creative and violent lot.

As the sun went down, the tiki torches came out, so there was no rush to head back indoors. It was time for an evening of fun!

Homecoming Dance 2014, Town Hall, Saturday Evening

Upon entering the Town Hall tonight, dance attendees might notice a very definite theme tonight! A very definite, very sparkly theme tonight, with enough glitter strewn around the place that there were, in fact, glitterdrifts piling up around the edges of the dance floor. Everything was glittery, or sequiny, or rhinestoney, with a sort of sci-fi punk sensibility about it. Ish.

You'd be surprised how difficult it was to find 'Glitterpunk' as a genre on google for reference.

Welcome to Homecoming 2014
GLITTERPUNK!

Whatever that meant!

Homecoming Carnival | Post I | The Park | Friday, October 24

Soooo the carnival was out this year, due to that whole murder carnival this summer. But it did bring the arrival of the Homecoming Fall Festival, which was open nice and early for everyone to get playing around and mingling. You might even be enticed to come in just by the dulcet sounds of the zombie band playing at the concert stage. Yeah, that was a thing that was happening.

There was plenty of new fall-themed stuff going on to see and explore, and who doesn't want to catch up with everyone who's come into town for the weekend? Come one, come all, and remember to stick around for the parade! Because this was a town full of stairs and that was gonna be interesting.

Oh and you were almost guaranteed to leave with glitter on your person but you knew this job was dangerous when you took it.

Cafe Luke's, Wednesday

Lion-o took a break from packing for one last shift at Luke's. After all, he wanted to have just one more burger to remember the place. Well, okay, maybe one more after that since he practically inhaled the first one.

Today's Specials
Grilled Turkey Burgers with Cheddar and Smoky Aioli
Sweet Potato Fries with Garlic and Herbs
Chocolate Banana Shake

There was a single glass of water out on the counter, with Lion-o and most of the staff gathered around to watch. Why? Because there was a shark fin circling around the surface of the water. There was also a glass of orange juice, another of diet soda, and a bowl of soup that were all pushed off to the side after they proved to be fin-less and boring.

Today's Specials
Summer Corn and Cod Chowder
Chicken with Herb-Roasted Tomatoes and Pan Sauce
Sticky Toffee Banana Pudding

The rest of the kitchen staff was comparing notes about how awful last week's events were, especially when it look like they would run out of food. Lion-o stayed silent. Finally, one of the cooks asked Lion-o how last week had been for him.

Lion-o averted his eyes and said, "I don't want to talk about it." And after a few moments of awkward silence, someone brought up sports and the conversation moved on.

Today's Specials
JalapeƱo Cheeseburgers with Bacon and Grilled Onions
Roasted Fingerling Potatoes with Chive Pesto
Lemon Layer Cake

Moon Landing Dance, Community Center, Saturday Evening

Notices had gone out to all and sundry, inviting both those who still lived on the island as well as those who'd moved away to come back for a dance at the Fandom Town community center, in celebration of the 43rd (give or take a day) anniversary of the original moon landing, as well as the wonderful summer they were having.

Once people arrived, they'd find the community center's auditorium decorated according to the theme of the evening. Silver streamers hung all around, and a few papier mache moons had been fixed to the ceiling. The lights were dimmed, and there were flowers – most white, but some of them colored silver – on all the tables, bringing the faint scent of summer with them.

And naturally, there were big tables full of food, like at any large Fandom gathering. There was also a bar, though those underage would have to content themselves with sodas and virgin drinks. Maybe they could get over their sorrow over that on the dance floor, showing off their best Moonwalk.

Everything was ready for the people of Fandom to have a good time.

The first time Lion-o went to get something from the walk-in fridge, he found a stuffed penguin sitting just inside the door. The second time, he found a second stuffed penguin wearing a scarf. On his third trip to the walk-in, he found a third stuffed penguin wearing a hat.

After that, he stopped going back into the walk-in. He was fed up with the penguins taunting him with how cool they were.

It hadn't taken Lion-o very long to feel settled again in Fandom. The heat didn't even bother him since temperatures on old Thundera were often higher. So he couldn't quite understand why the rest of the staff at Luke's wanted to hang around in the walk-in fridge. "Come on, you guys! The customers are out here," Lion-o protested in vain.

Thai Chicken and Peanut Slaw
Mediterranean Quinoa Salad
Prosciutto-Wrapped Turkey, Avocado and Swiss Panini

Independence Day was not a holiday that Lion-o was familiar with, but he was happy to celebrate his return to the island. Besides, he loved the idea of a holiday associated with grilling hamburgers.

Twice-Cooked French Fries

Graduation Brunch, The Park, Early Sunday Afternoon

Disregarding last year's meadfest with their friends the Vikings, it was a fine Fandom tradition that the graduation day was followed up by a grad brunch on Sunday, and this year was no exception.

The weather was okay, and a feast had been laid out in the park. A banner spelling out CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2012 hung from the trees, and there were tables and chairs spread all around, some covered by tents and some not. And at the center of it all, naturally as at any good Fandom event, were the tables of moddable foods and drinks.

Even cake. Fandom High graduation ceremonies might have been things of surprise dropbear terror, but the school did take care of its own when it came to food. It was a very good time for the graduates, along with their classmates, friends and families, not to mention random townsfolk, to gather and celebrate yet another class making its way through the challenge knowns as high school.

The Park, Thursday, All Day

For all the chompy bunnies that had been taken out yesterday, there were twice as many running around the town now, and to the administration's horror, they'd made friends with the gizka and the Protopets - if "friends" could be defined as "members of an ongoing competition to see who could reproduce the fastest" at least. The Protopets were burping, the gizka were spawning, and the bunnies were...well, bunnying.

The creatures were running all over the island, but there was a considerable amount of them in the park. Maybe it was all the trees to hide behind. Maybe the lake made a nice setting for mating. Whatever the reason, if anyone was looking for a good fight, this was the place to be.

[As mentioned in the OOC post, these creatures can be fought anywhere on the island, but this post is for anyone who wants a specific place to fight, or a group setting to get their aggression out. Minor OCD is below!]

Lion-o was not happy. He hated the stupid uniform he had to wear, along with the gloves and hat that concealed his mane and claws. He had every intention of staying in his dorm room until the school board left town. But hunger caused him to change his mind. Also, it was nice to burn off some energy and frustration by taking out a lot of vicious bunnies on the way to work.

It was no secret that Lion-o was a carnivore. But he knew that living around humans meant that he had to subdue his natural hunting instincts. So he stuck to cooked food and grudgingly ate vegetables along with his red meat.

But sometimes he dreamed of killing and eating fresh meat. He usually felt just a bit guilty when he woke up. So when Lion-o checked out the walk-in fridge and found plenty of fresh venison, he wondered if it was a coincidence that he dreamed about teal deer the night before. He was going to feel remorseful when he dug into his lunch.

The kitchen staff all demanded to see pictures of Lion-o's kids from over the weekend. "Sorry, guys," he apologized. "I didn't have any kids show up, so I can't show you any pictures."

They didn't believe him, and they kept nagging him through the lunch rush. Finally, in an effort to get them to give up, Lion-o ran back to his dorm room. He returned with pictures of WileyKat and WileyKit, figuring he could pass them off as his kids. It worked for now, but things would get very confusing if the Thunderkittens every visited him in Fandom.

Today's Specials

Buttermilk Corn Bread with Bacon

Cafe Fina, Monday evening

Lion-o took a few minutes to chat with the Fina staff before grabbing a table for himself and Momoko. "I feel bad that I haven't visited this place more often," he said. "But the cheese grater told me about this awesome new dessert. How would you like to start out by sampling some banana caramel cream? Or how about green tea cheesecake?"

[[Lion-o is here for Momoko, but Cafe Fina is open for anyone else who wants to drool over desserts on Pinterest.]]

Prom | Community Center | Friday Evening | Post I

There was no bouncer at the entrance to the Community Center, all the better for any underclassmen to sneak into the night's festivities and pray that their own official final dance in Fandom would be half so...red. To be technical, the shade was rust.

Thankfully to the more practical among the StuCo Prom Committee, the Mars theme lended itself to plenty of starry twinkle lights and a decadant foggy mist rising from the dance floor that might just help the chaperones in their quest to look the other way when students got too handsy. That was really all that mattered at an event like this. Well, other than the food on hand and the ability for the punch to merge well with whatever spirits were 'accidentally' dropped into over the course of the evening.

For this was a night to be remembered! Even if all that stuck in the memories of the students was the terrifying spacemen floating around the giant papier mache Mars that dangled in place of a disco ball over the dance floor. Or perhaps it would be the fantastic flavor of the fiery fountain of cherry pie filling. Fake fire, of course, but the filling? Totally real and delicious. Even if it looked a little too much like fiery blood for some people.

Welcome to your 2012 Fandom High Senior Prom!

Cafe Luke's, Wednesday

Sometimes Lion-o couldn't win. He'd spent most of the weekend watching basketball games so he could keep up with the kitchen staff and their sports chatter. Except today, college basketball was the furthest thing from their minds. Instead, the cook kept going on about a coach who was suspended while the bus boy and dish washer kept about jets and some guy named Tebow. In the end, Lion-o gave up on trying to keep up with the conversation.

Lion-o didn't know a whole lot about basketball. Still, the busboy persuaded him to fill out a March Madness bracket just for fun. He worked on it when he was between customers for most of his shift. And in the end, Lion-o picked Kansas State to be the final winner. He just might have been biased when he realized that their mascot was a wildcat.

Lion-o was in for a surprise today. When he arrived at the diner, there was an amazing smell in the air. "You guys started baking without me! What is that in the oven?" he asked when he popped into the kitchen.

The answer surprised him. "Wait, you're baking bread? It's something you can actually make? I had no idea." All this time, Lion-o assumed that bread was one of those things that magically appeared on store shelves. He wondered if there were other things that he had been buying all along that he could have made himself.

Today's Specials
Slow Cooked Pork Carnitas
Cilantro-Lime Rice
Dulce de Leche Banana Toffee Pie
