Friday Evening: Town Hall: Homecoming (8pm - 10pm)

The first thing that might be noticed when students walked into the Town Hall was the towering stone troll statues that had been dragged in to grace the corners of the dance floor.  It being Homecoming and a semi-formal dance, the trolls were decked out appropriately in hats, glitter, and togas.  Fairy lights were strung across the ceiling, some twined with streamers and some dripping glitter and confetti across the dance floor.

The walls were decorated with blown up pictures of significant events at Fandom: Graduations, the school blowing up, the Christmas pageants, plays, carnivals, zombies, all the moments that make Fandom Fandom.  Given a place of honour on the walls were a mock up of an exploding volcano, a massive gremlin in a bow tie, and, of course, the Stickbug flag.

Large lit up snowmen congregated around the punch bowl against a snowy backdrop and across the ballroom near the stage, there was a mural of large dinosaurs reaching up to enjoy a glittery streamer dinner.  The wall of the door though had the biggest picture of all - a painting of the island at night from across the water.

As students dropped off their wraps, they were pointed to vote for Homecoming Court then encouraged to proceed into the ballroom.

She glanced down before looking back up to meet his eyes. "I'm sorry."

Roy held her gaze. "Not your fault," he murmured.

"The missing your friend part is," she said softly. "Unless you're referring to another friend and I'm being all self-centered."

"You needed space," he pointed out, managing not to lose the beat as they spoke softly.

"We both did, I think," she murmured, still dancing gracefully.

"Probably," he agreed, giving her a wistful smile. "Still missed you."

"I missed you too," Aly admitted quietly. She paused, letting the music carry them for a bit. "I would miss you as my friend."

He didn't meet her eyes, nor did he miss a beat but his shoulder still tensed under her hand and his jaw tightened at her need to specify. "I have never expected anything more but friendship from you and I apologise if any of my actions have felt like I was pushing you."

Aly's eyes closed for a moment as she tried to figure out how she could hit every note so wrong this week. "You never have," she said softly but clearly. "And I wouldn't think it of you."

Maybe it was just something that he needed to hear because the tension faded again and his hand fitted more natural against her back. He bowed his head, making one of the bangs slide in front of his eye again but he didn't notice as he watched her. "I'd hate it if you did," he said quietly.

"Likewise," she said quietly, glancing up to catch the misbehaving bang and smiling slightly.

He couldn't help smiling back, his fingers flexing against her back as he held her gaze. And maybe he shifted just that much closer, just close enough to make the dancing smoother.

Aly chuckled, feeling the ease of the dancing increase. "That feels more comfortable."

"I forgot I was supposed to be grading you," he said lightly, gently guiding her into a more complex pattern.

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I really prefer the term complimenting to grading," she teased, following easily.

He chuckled. "But I thought we both agreed you're a woman who doesn't need to be complimented?" he teased.

She sighed dramatically, still teasing. "Graded sounds so teachery."

Re: Third Set

[identity profile] light-a-spark.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Which I'm not," Roy agreed immediately. "Would you stand being complimented?"

Re: Third Set

[identity profile] tricksy-spy.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
"I might be able to manage it," she mumured.

Re: Third Set

[identity profile] light-a-spark.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
He grinned. "So what exactly am I complimenting you on? Pure dancing style or should I rate the whole package?"

"Anything you like," Aly teased.

"Legs," he deadpanned and smirked at her, eye twinkling with mischief. "I like legs."

"Like horses, do you?" she asked, her eyes full of mischief.

"I've personally never danced with a horse," he replied.
