Jeff, God of Biscuits...Delivery Cart, Near The School Gates, Friday Afternoon

Yes, Francine Peters stole a golf cart.

Yes, even though there was nobody left in J,GoB, she felt guilty about it.

Yes, she was Francine Peters and thus was fully under the impression that Professor Skywalker would probably send her to jail for it eventually, but there was a war on and THE PEOPLE NEEDED CHOCOLATE.

Which is why there was a golf cart full of chocolate-frosted chocolate chocolate fudge double chunk ripple chocolate cupcakes, doughnuts and yes, people with long memories for stupidity, brownies (sans oregano), located at the corner of Mallard and Chimera, for any of Fandom's brave fighters who need more artillery. Or had the munchies.

Yes, Natalie, there was definitely also coffee.

JGOB, Thursday Morning

It was possible cupcakes weren’t going to help the situation at all. But Stark wanted some and thought it entirely likely that others on the island would appreciate something as well. And the radio had mentioned something about weaponizing pastries, hadn’t it? He wasn’t entirely sure what that was about, but some cupcakes weren’t going to hurt. Unless he vanished. That might hurt. Although the radio had also mentioned something about crazy being a good defense, and he was sure that he could manage something in that area. That was why he had braved the rather deserted (and somewhat diminished) streets of Fandom this morning.

Unfortunately, when he arrived at JGOB it was even more deserted than the streets had been. No Jeff. No employees. No customers. And, since the shop had been empty since yesterday afternoon, no cupcakes (the last of those had ended up on the sidewalk out front yesterday). Only a handful of day-old and likely somewhat stale other pastries.

"Hello?" Stark asked as he nervously walked around the shop hoping for signs of life. There were none. It seemed abandoned. This wasn’t good.

Suppressing an urge to flail (at least momentarily), Stark started cleaning up. It seemed like the thing to do. Maybe the employees were just late. Or were hiding out from whatever it was outside that had blanketed the island. There was no reason to assume that they’d vanished. Just because that was the most likely explanation didn’t mean it was the correct one. And if they showed up, then cleaning up would only help them since they were already late.

He didn’t really expect them to show up. Not really. He kept glancing up hopefully at the door while he worked though, just in case. When things were clean and still the shop remained empty except for the solitary Banik, then the panic started setting in. At least it was mild. So far. Mostly it just led to loud and nervous humming. And arm motions most accurately described as flailing. And pacing. He ended up, eventually, in front of the ovens.

"I could bake!" he said to the empty pastry shop. "I think. There’s no one to mind. And someone might want some cupcakes." There was bound to be at least one other person on the island in search of pastries today, wasn’t there? "What do I need? They have everything here. I think. They must. Need chocolate. It has to be chocolate. There should always be chocolate. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate..." Baking would happen, eventually, if he could get the flailing and the urge to completely freak out under control.

[Expecting one but totally open for others as well. I am sadly AFK while covered with teacup humans, but I will be available briefly between 1-2 EST and after 5.]

Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday Afternoon

The last place Karla wanted to be was at work (or, you know, on the island at all), but unlike people kept insinuating, she knew her duty and she did it. And she'd be damned if she was going to skulk about and hide in her room, regardless. So here she was, chin up and head high, inventorying the stock since it was doubtful they'd be getting any deliveries soon.

There were a few more snow globes left, but she was saving those. In case there were people about who wished to share their uninvited opinions about her actions the other day.

The Gig, Sunday

Helplessness was not a feeling Firekeeper was accustomed to. Or very fond of (as if anyone really was). Unfortunately, a lack of reading skills meant there was really nothing she could contribute to any sort of research effort, so she was left at loose ends, frustrated and annoyed.

Hopefully distracting herself with the routine tasks at the stables would help a little. So, she and Blind Seer went to work as usual, perching on a hay bale as they chatted with the horses.

Just outside the school gates [early afternoon]

Anakin came back from Connecticut with a new sense of purpose (and a deep hatred of the idiots who drove on I-95), several 2x4s, a hammer, and some paper.

A few minutes of banging later and Anakin had a giant bulletin board...thing.

In big bold letters he labeled one giant sheet of paper "CONFIRMED DISAPPEARANCES" and the other "RETURNING FANDOMITES."

He took a deep breath before scrawling information under the disappearances, then tacking up two dated photographs of the people in question on the blank area on the board he'd left for that purpose. For some reason it seemed vital that someone other than him remember what they looked like too.

He placed a piece of glass down over the sheets of paper (no use going to this much trouble if things would just get blown away or wet) and headed back to the trooper station to catch up on what he'd missed the last few days.

[OOC: And now we have an IC place to link to the information dropped characters and alumni are leaving in voicemails! Please hold for OCD.]

Homecoming Dance | Town Hall | Saturday Evening | Post I

Glitter encrusted moosen stood guard in the entry to the transformed Town Hall, reminding all those in attendance that the night was about all things Canadian. Or things the Student Council had deemed Canadian - plus a whole lot of glitter.

Sparkly red maple leaves and paper geese hung from irridescent streamers, setting off the food tables as very much separate from the raised dance floor in case the terrifying papier-mâché beaver didn't make it obvious that the timbits were for eating. Or for dunking in the maple syrup fountain. Beyond pure sugar, there were plenty of bite-size portioned food and nonalcoholic beverages to push the theme into the bellies of all, no matter how tight the dresses!

Beyond the dance floor, the shadowy corners glowed with the twinkle of glittery maple leaf garland and a Joni Mitchell inspired moose that had been strategically positioned to look rather tragic in its lyric-covered glory. Yes, glory. For the evening was to be glorious. Or at the very least entertaining.

Welcome to your 2011 Homecoming Dance!

Fandom High 20 Year Reunion Brunch, Community Center, Sunday Morning

Although the weekend was almost over, the esteemed alumni of Fandom High were not getting away without one last get-together. The park had been deemed too cold for the event, so the community center had been set up again with tasteful blue and yellow streamers and real flowers on the tables, although there might have been a few paper flowers still lying around from last night too.

There was plenty of food just waiting to be eaten, and if someone asked nicely, they might be able to acquire a drink or two as well. It was five o'clock somewhere.

Fandom High 20 Year Reunion Mixer, Community Center - Saturday Evening

If anyone could recall the dance from the night before, they would have thought that it was decorated tastefully compared to what was going on tonight. There were streamers, balloons and what appeared to be paper flower ornaments everywhere. All done in yellow and blue for the proud graduates of Fandom High, of course.

And there were the 'classic' songs from twenty years ago blaring loudly for people to dance or cringe to. Who knew Ke$ha and Justin Bieber would get to be classic pop music for future generations?

Just be glad there is an open bar.

April Fools' Dance, An Abandoned Warehouse, Friday Night

The first arrivals to the warehouse would have found nothing - until the lights went on, dropping many shades of glitter down onto the floor. The glitter would stick around all night, almost-but-not-quite clashing with the colorful decor, though it did not seem to incite any boykissy.

Even if one of the janitors definitely took a shot at using it as an excuse.

There was a karaoke booth set up in the corner, and the rest of the party environment looked chaotic and incredibly merry. Reds, blues, and yellows had been thrown together like a crazy man had attacked the place with some paint.

Welcome to your April Fools' Dance, children, adults, and alumni.

Homecoming Brunch, The Park, Sunday Morning/Afternoon

Even though it was daytime, the "dolphins in space" theme had been carried over to the brunch. The mural was nowhere to be found, but inside the tent that had been set up to give everyone a shady place to gather, there were silver and blue metallic streamers and balloons hung up, and each of the tables had a blue flower arrangement on it.

There were no fish to be found though, unless you counted what could be on the food table. Honestly, that might not really be fish either.

Luke's Diner: Thursday, 8/19

Francine wasn't expecting a party for her last shift at Luke's or anything; she'd hardly been there long enough to rate something like that, and anyway, she was Francine; she was almost never expecting a party.

But being presented on her arrival with a giant pile of bananas on the counter and stern instructions to peel them all before lunchtime or else? It lacked a little something in the way of polite goodbyes.

At least until her lunchbreak rolled around and they called her back to the kitchen to reveal the giant banana split, mounded high with Chilly Boulder cake batter ice cream.

Specials
Banana Frittata
Bolivian Peppery pork with Bananas
Banana Split

Apparently bribing them with baked goods every Thursday paid off.

[Luke's is open! But slowplay warning from Hellllll. Or Downer's Grove, whichever.]

Magic/Support Reserves: the Beach, Wednesday After Classes

As if to make up for the lack of meeting last week, the plans for Magic and Support reserves this week were action-packed and very complex.

They were detailed on the posters put up in the usual spot behind the dorms.

It took three whole lines.

Magic/Support Reserves End of Summer Survival Celebration

Meet at the beach. Bring sunscreen and a towel.

Free cookies.

OOC: Wait for the OCD, plz is up! Yes, we're all lazy. MP is so lazy, in fact, that she can't be bothered to even post this very thing she wrote.]

Luke's Diner, Thursday, August 12th

Francine spent a few moments when she arrived just standing in the doorway. The place looked at it had before she'd disappeared last week, the counter and specials board intact -- it even smelled the same, which was a little disconcerting.

Turns out that was because they'd repeated the same specials, in honor of Francine's day at work getting ruined the last time. She refrained from telling the kitchen staff that the idea was sweet but the flashbacks were kind of freaking her the crap out, when she realized that also meant the Nanaimo Bars were back.

This time she didn't disappear when she reached for one.

Or two.

Or three.

Specials
Beef brisket
Double-baked cheesy potatoes
Buttered carrots
Nanaimo Bars

Luke's was open and free of dimensional rips.

Luke's Diner: Thursday Morning, 8/5

Francine was not the type of waitress who sneaked samples on the job.

More often than, say, once a week. Shut up. Look, the baked goods case had Nanaimo Bars in it. Who on earth could blame her for reaching for one, after she'd finished writing it down on the specials menu?

The multiverse, apparently, because the moment she lifted off the glass top and snagged one, Francine felt something very, very wrong, and it wasn't guilt. (She'd been planning to pay for it, after all. And have the carrots with her lunch instead of the double-baked cheesy potatoes.)

Guilt didn't feel like cold, cold air rushing past her, or look like a jagged, impossible rip through the air, like someone blonde and angry had taken a knife to a canvas, except it wasn't, it was just air and on the other side was... something else. A pulsing, sucking darkness that pulled her in without a chance to even finish her scream before everything went black.

A pulsing, sucking, hungry darkness, since it also grabbed a counter stool, the rest of the Nanaimo Bars, and half the specials board before it closed in on itself and disappeared.

Spec
Beef bri
Double-baked chee
Buttered car
Nanaim

Luke's was open, but there wasn't a waitress to be seen, and the counter was a bit of a mess.
Entry tags:

Luke's Diner: Thursday July 29th

Francine was glad to be back on the island, but maybe missing the geekery and random celebrity sightings a little, if you judged from the specials board.

Today's Specials
Flying Spaghetti-Monster with Meat Sauce
Tev'Meckian Bloodworms (NOTE: Contains no actual worms. Or blood.)
Space Battles Mantha Milk (NOTE: Contains soy product.)

[OOC: the OCD got left on the shuttle.]

Luke's Diner, Thursday

The strawberry cake last week had been a perfect bribe to avoid the glaring Francine wasn't sure she was going to get when she broke the dishes she wasn't sure she was going to break.

This time she didn't dream about breaking anything, but she still brought in extra cookies, just in case. It seemed like a sound policy in general.

Today's Specials
Maple and Brown-Sugar Glazed Ham
Maple-roasted root vegetables
Maple Drop Cookies

Luke's was open way late, oh day, I'm so glad you are over and mapley.

[OOC: and the OCD ran away with the spoon!]

Luke's Diner [Thursday, July 8th]

Waking at four a.m. yesterday morning because the sound of crashing dishes in her dream was so loud that it made Francine sit straight up in bed and reflexively mumble sorry sorry sorry before she was fully aware of her surroundings... might not have been a precognitive sign that she was going to need to bribe the kitchen staff to stop glaring at her on her very first day of work, but Francine took it as one anyway.

Today's Specials
Buttered turkey leg
Memphis style cole-slaw
Strawberry cake

Which is why she made two strawberry cakes, only one of which was on the menu.

And spent her first break sweeping up crockery shards.

Luke's was open, and not too frazzled.

Luke's Diner, July 5 (Monday)

Lacey'd spent most of the fourth of July on the phone with the boys back in Dog River, which meant she'd gotten treated to an extensive (really, really extensive) and misinformed (grossly, grossly misinformed) diatribe from Hank on why exactly Americans set off fireworks on the Fourth. Hank's version, for the record, involved dud firecrackers from Canada Day that somehow ended up over the border, someone discovering them and attempting to light them, and this all logically (really!) leading to an explanation of why their fireworks celebrations were inferior.

At least, Lacey thought that was what he was leading up to before she'd hung up on him.

And maybe just for that, just to spite him, she'd do the diner up in a red, white, and blue theme today. So there.

Today's Specials
Double-Dipped Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Grilled Corn with Lime-Cilantro Butter
Maple Cake with Maple Syrup Frosting

NOW HIRING - See Manager for Details

. . . okay, she might have failed the theme there on that last special, but shh.

Luke's is open and, belatedly, a little bit holiday-themed? Maybe?

[OOC: OCD's going to the beach, because my brain is seriously on vacation today and this post took me three hours to write. I am not going to the beach, but I do have errands to run so SP is gonna be the thing.]

Summer Dance/Gala Event | Evening | Saturday | June 19

As the sun started to set, the lights officially came on at the new community center! The building was now complete, its walls gleaming and solid in the waning light. As people began to arrive, they would notice decorations lining the tiled and bright corridors, leading them towards the large auditorium where the dance was being held.

Once inside the auditorium, there were more decorations. Streamers in the colors of summer hung from the rafters and painted the walls. There were fresh flowers in every corner and on every table, bringing fragrance and festiveness to the room. The lights were low in the auditorium, dimmed to provide both mood and setting to this party in the evening.

There were several long tables stocked full with foods of all kinds and there was even a bar with an expert bartender who'd be happy to serve you. Tips were welcome but not mandatory. Large speakers hung in the corners of the room, installed to provide the latest and greatest sound system to the new building.

Everything was completed, everything was ready so it was time to enjoy yourselves!
