The store? Mostly flooded.

Apu? Standing on the counter with a snorkel and holding the new register over his head, up and out of the water.

Inexplicably both Lizzy and the SquishyBot have sprouted flotation devices and are bobbing placidly on the surfice.

Into this scene swims a perky and totally generic mermaid.

"Oooh! Look at this stuff! Isn't it neat?!" she says to nobody in particular.

The totally generic mermaid swims here and there, checking out the inventory and playing with register.

Today's Squishy Flavor:
Red, Kelp, Krill

Turtle & Canary is open.

[ooc: I know you think you know who this mermaid is, but it's not. She's a completely generic mermaid. Ask her name, she's got a totally different name. Go ahead, I dare you. Also, for those who are interested. The Merperson Icons post I made now includes a few (slightly less threatening) more icons.]]

Yitzhak? Was an evil bastard. He was even more of one today upon discovering that men all over the island had turned into actual biological women yesterday and he had somehow been passed over for the whole miraculous phenomenon. That, as far as he was concerned, was a gross injustice.

So of course, like he did, he was taking it out on everyone else. He figured everyone was probably sick of the rain today, so what better way to needle them than to remind them of it? Especially since his diner was conveniently high and dry?

Today's specials: Soup. Lots and lots of soup.
Who'll Stop the Rain - Chicken Noodle
Have You Ever Seen the Rain - Cream of Tomato
Rainy Days and Mondays - Tomato Basil
I Wish It Would Rain - Corn Chowder
A Little Fall of Rain - Clam Chowder
And On a Rainy Night - Chicken Tortilla
Laughter In the Rain - French Onion
Crying In the Rain - Baked Potato
Candy Rain - Peppermint
Here Comes the Rain Again - Minestrone
Blame It on the Rain - Vegetable Beef
I'm Only Happy When It Rains - Split Pea
London Rain - Cock-a-Leekie
I Never Liked the Rain (Til I Walked Through it With You) - Navy Bean and Ham
It Can't Rain All the Time - Cream of Mushroom
Purple Rain - Grape
The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Bouillabaisse
Rainy Night in Georgia - Peach Cobbler, actually . . . but a soupy one.
MacArthur Park - Damp Cake

So what if most of them were Campbell's, and came out of a can? It wasn't like Yitzhak was going to let on, although the cook was so disgusted with him for it that it looked like there was going to have to be a repeat of the Fleetwood Mac theme day just to get the maximum effect out of the hateful looks.

Luke's is open, and very, very soupy.

[OOC: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] demonbelthazor, [livejournal.com profile] futurevisions, and [livejournal.com profile] untouchableskin for helping me pick out rain-themed songs, because holy crap are there fifty million of them -- and for helping me come up with enough soups for all of them. *g*]

Café Fina, Friday

Despite the fact that there was about a foot of water on the floor of Café Fina, the door was open and the kitchen staff was indeed cooking.
Granted, they had all donned rubber swim-flippers on their feet to emphasize how displeased they were with being made to work when there was water halfway to their knees.
At the door, there was a fork and a knife standing guard to fend off any unfriendly looking merpeople. For some reason, the employees of Café Fina had a certain animosity toward merpeople which may or may not have something to do with their Broadway run being canceled to accommodate Disney's new production of The Little Mermaid.
In any case, Fina was the place to be if you weren't a mermaid bent on Broadway takeover.

Today's Specials Board reads:
Eat for half price today if you aren't a mermaid!

Despite the weather, Fina is open.

(OOC: As usual, mod the anthropomorphic flatware, I work today but will be around for another hour and a half if you want interaction of any sort, and Lumiere is once again a masculine candle.)

Jay and Silent Bob slogged through the deepening water and up a handy roof access ladder to sit with their feet hanging over the edge of the roof in a rough approximation of their usual spots. Neither was quite looking at the other.

". . . we're never talking about that freaky shit that went down yesterday, right?"

Silent Bob shook his head.

"'Cause . . . you know I'm not into fat chicks."

Bob looked offended. And damp.

[[Open. Use your imaginations as to what they got up to yesterday.]]

Photo Hut, Flooded

Leo was lounging in an inflatable boat with the groovy mermaid that'd come in not long ago. He was teaching her how to play Battleship.

"You seem familiar." she said. "Were you in the Navy?"

Photo hut is open. If submerged.

GOB had Tino set up a sandbag perimeter around the Lounge tonight. The water was ankle high and he didn't want it to reach the stage. Not because of electrical concerns if the water got that far or anything, but mainly because he didn't want to smell wet zombie.

[OOC: Please consider me distracted for the night and mod Tino. If you really want to talk to GOB, though, I'm open to that. Just ping me on AIM or e-mail to grab my attention, please.]

Throughout the day, the park had slowly begun to sink. Not only in terms of the amount of water, but also in terms of the ground itself seeming to shift and lower.

With a heavy rumble, what seemed to be a large sand castle rose from the spot that had previously been the location of the duck pond. The doors to the castle burst open and a glowing man who somewhat resembled a bearded fish raced out, riding a chariot pulled by two giant seahorses.

"People of Fandom! Poseidon, God of the Sea, the Earth-Shaker, speaks to you now!" he called out to nobody in particular. He was making a godly decree. Good godly decrees didn't necessarily need an immediate audience. "You have wronged creatures of my domain and so you have wronged me! Since all of this rain that you have mysteriously had over the past few days has covered your precious island in water, I'm declaring it to be part of the sea. That means it's mine. My people will be moving in overnight. Don't mind them, they just need places to stay, and since I now own everything here they can stay wherever they want. If anyone sees a groundhog, please bring it to me for punishment. The reward will be a dolphin ride. That is all in terms of announcements for right now. Thank you and have a good night."

"Oh, before I forget, if you're far too attached to moving around on land and don't have sea transportation ready, don't worry. You're denizens of my realm now and if you're too lazy to swim, there will be rafts available for your use." Poseidon did his best to be a decent guy, even if he was a wrathful god.

With that, Poseidon's chariot turned around and charged back into the castle where the doors promptly shut.

[OOC: The flood begins in earnest overnight as the mer-people and giant sea creatures move in. We'll have a listing of what's completely underwater and what can be found there up sometime late tonight or early tomorrow. That's just about all you need at the moment, I think, so have fun.

Oh, and you can feel free to have someone near the park to hear Poseidon's address if you want your character to know about this right away. If not, the information will get out before tomorrow anyway.]

It may have been raining on the island, but the parking lot on the other side of the causeway was dry. Jack could see the Captain, leaning on the side of a big black car, not quite a limo, but one that gave the impression of being Very Important.

"I never," Jack said to Parker as they slowly approached, "ever, want to be that smug. If I am? Shoot me."

Beware of Captains bearing gifts. )

Moist had travelled to work in a very unique way. Had anyone been watching, they would have seen him apparently gliding across the surface of the water, illuminated from below by a golden glow.

That was because he was perched on Gladys's shoulders.

The Post Office was flooded, right up to the edge of the second floor. Moist got in by the simple expedient of climbing across the roof and through the windows, which he threw open in lieu of doors. They were just the right height for anyone who might be traversing the floods by boat.

Gladys tramped stoically up the stairs, shedding water. "There Are Creatures In The Post Office."

"What?" Moist cautiously looked over the railing and came face to face with a…well, he had no idea what it was, but it looked part fish and all unfriendly. "Hello?" he ventured.

The thing cocked its head, grinned, then leapt into the air, landing in the water with a splash and a flick of its tail.

"So is that better or worse than a flying demon monkey?" he asked as it swam out of sight.

"I Do Not Know."

"Neither do I, but if it goes near the Sorting Engine it might be in for a surprise."

[Post office is open for business, or at least the second floor is. I go sleeps now! Mod Gladys, or I'll be up in about five hours.]
