"Why are you looking at me like that?" Annette asked Not Tiddles when she came into the post office. "I'm wearing normal clothes. Except these are new jeans and this is a new sweater. It's pink, I know. You can't snag me so stop looking at me like that."
"Mrrreoow." Not Tiddles was sprawled on the counter, one paw resting lazily in Annette's empty candy dish. And she was looking at Annette in that lazy, cat-eyed way that meant, to Annette, that evil wicked thoughts were brewing.
"Shoo. That's my work space. Don't make me do the flaily arm action. I don't feel like that this morning. I'm achy." Pause. "Because."
"Mrrreoow."
Annette sighed. "Fine, but if you touch me I know this guy with a really big dog. He likes my lungs so I bet he might let me borrow his dog."
