How had it gotten this close to the end of the month already? Lacey had no idea, although she blamed part of her own inability to keep track of the time on getting far too distracted looking up recipes for the vegetables her in-house planters seemed to be intent on growing all on their own.

It kept her from sighing too much over not being in Hawaii, at least. And the diner smelled (she thought) pretty good. Warm and inviting, even.

. . . even if the island was largely empty this week.

Jake didn't expect a crowd at the pub tonight, so he was using the time to text Des and try and pry something resembling useful information out of him regarding the state of Mal's health.

Des seemed far more interested in whining about the latest guy Tinny was dating. Which, while it wasn't the information he was after, was at least somewhat useful. He'd have to run a background check as soon as he got back to the hotel.
